National Citizenship Day, or Constitution Day, is observed annually on September 17th. It commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 and celebrates both the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens. It also honors those who have become naturalized citizens, recognizing their contributions and the importance of active citizenship in American democracy. AIR Communities is excited to share an inspiring story about one of our teammates who used the AIR Gives Citizenship Benefit to achieve his dream of becoming a U.S. citizen! Antonio, an AIR Communities Service Technician, moved to America from El Salvador in 2003, making his journey to citizenship more than 20 years in the making. When asked what motivated him to persist, Antonio shared, "I came here with nothing, but I decided to become a citizen because I knew I wanted to be in America for the rest of my life." AIR Gives is proud to offer financial assistance to eligible teammates interested in pursuing naturalized American citizenship, helping them achieve important milestones like Antonio's. 🌟 Driving Innovation from Colorado to Cambridge 🌟 A key part of providing exceptional homes is creating a sense of place in the communities where AIR is located. Recently AIR Communities partnered with the City of Aurora and the Fitzsimons Innovation Community, the area surrounding our communities at 21 Fitzsimons and The Fremont, on a fact-finding mission to Boston and Cambridge, MA. The purpose of the trip was to learn about the development and governance of bioscience communities in the area – lessons that could be transferred to the 184-acre campus at Fitzsimons.  AIR teammates Terry Considine, Patti Shwayder, Winsor Williams, and Barb Frommell led the delegation that included Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman as well as additional Aurora and Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority officials. The group met with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Cambridge City Manager Yi-An Huang, and over a dozen public, private and non-profit sector leaders who have been instrumental in developing three innovation districts in the Boston area. The goal was to learn about some of the strategies used to create thriving communities, including housing, and brainstorm ways to put similar strategies into action on the Fitzsimons campus. AIR Communities was pleased to host the opening reception of a public art installation from Philadelphia-based artist Rachel Hsu, at Maja Park, adjacent to AIR’s Park Towne Place Museum District Residences. This temporary artwork will be on view from now until October 27, 2024. We're proud to co-sponsor this project in partnership with the Association for Public Art (aPA), the Parkway Council, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR). “AIR is pleased to continue its longstanding partnership with aPA to bring unique artworks to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway,” said Patti Shwayder, AIR’s Senior Vice President. “This site-specific installation encourages visitors to relax and rejuvenate while barefoot and complements the art programming at Park Towne Place." The installation invites visitors to experience a tactile journey by walking barefoot along river stones embedded in a circular platform. This innovative blend of public art and wellness encourages reflection and mindfulness, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle of urban life. Hsu’s vision is more than just an artwork—it’s an invitation to connect with our environment and ourselves. For the past 21 years, AIR Communities has proudly hosted the AIR Gives Annual Golf Classic at The Sanctuary Golf Course in Colorado. This year was no exception, as the event once again delivered incredible support for veterans, their families, and students in need. Together with our dedicated partners from DBK Inc. and Badger Woodworks LLC., AIR teammates helped raise approximately $460,000 for three incredible causes: the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Project Sanctuary, and the AIR Gives Opportunity Scholarship for students in affordable housing. 🌿🐢 Turtles make everything better, so it's crucial to protect their habitat! Recently, a dedicated team of over 20 AIR Communities teammates and their families spent a day at Crandon Park engaging in habitat restoration while learning about the local ecosystem. "We took part in sea turtle stake painting and a coastal cleanup," shared an AIR teammate. "Not only was it really rewarding to lend a hand at the park, but it was an incredible learning opportunity for adults and kids alike."
