Testing and Training Converge For the Weapons Systems of Tomorrow. "#Warfighters being trained on the aircraft in simulations can identify flaws in the system that can later be validated in live flight testing. Fixes can then be developed and iterated on before being implemented in systems and #simulations." "While the #JSE (Joint Simulation Environment) was intended to be a testing environment for the F-35, it actually evolved to be much more than that. Today, it’s actually an incredible example of an important trend that can revolutionize two separate but essential functions within the #military – #testing and #training." Air Force Agency for Modeling & Simulation (AFAMS) leadership and team members joined other local Team Orlando organizations at the National Summit on Training, Modeling & Simulation in #Orlando Monday and Tuesday. The event focused on modeling, simulation, and training for victory in multi-domain warfare and tackled the crucial task of effectively training and preparing warfighters for the intricate threat landscapes of future conflicts. AFAMS Deputy Director Mr. Brett Telford and AFAMS Technical Director Dr. David Stargel participated in an Air Force panel discussing how AFAMS and the United States Air Force are maximizing performance through simulators. Mr. Telford also shared his insights on, “enhancing modeling and simulation to prepare for high-intensity warfare.” Air Force Deputy Director, Training and Readiness (AF/A3T) Mr. William Dries was also in attendance to discuss the latest Air Force training and readiness needs, requirements, and opportunities. The event was a fantastic opportunity to bring our M&S community together and explore how we can use today's technology to better support our military members today and in the future! #AFAMS #MandS #Training #Modeling #Simulation #Warfare #VirtualTraining #AirForce #military #warfighter #OrlandoSummit

There is only ONE WEEK left to register for the “AI-native Approach for the Immersive Technology Planning App (ITPA) Challenge” (to develop artificial intelligence-driven technology to revolutionize U.S. Air Force training)! Registration ENDS Oct. 11th for this prize challenge with total cash prizes of $155,000, so ACT NOW! The Air Force Agency for Modeling & Simulation (AFAMS), partnering with the Central Florida Tech Grove, invites you to participate in a unique PRIZE CHALLENGE to help track immersive technologies (e.g., XR: #AR / #VR / #MR) and their training implementations that can meaningfully impact alleviating United States Air Force (#USAF) personnel shortfalls. The Air Force training efforts need to be developed faster with improved quality. Immersive technologies are a key aspect to this. To address this, AFAMS conducts initial technology scans, explores #technologies, and collaborates with various organizations and stakeholders to ensure the latest immersive technologies are considered in future simulation #training efforts. To facilitate this, AFAMS developed the Immersive Technology Planning Application (#ITPA) as a concept demonstrator. The goal of this challenge is for participating teams to create an AI-native application architecture for and preliminary prototype of a new version of the AFAMS ITPA concept demonstrator. The ideal solution will perform automatic technology scans, gather, catalog, and evaluate the necessary data to support the ITPA, and improve decision-making mechanisms to assist the end-user in their #technology planning endeavors. The desired result of this challenge is to arrive at an advanced, AI-native architecture that shows the art of the possible of how AI capabilities can achieve a transformative impact on ITPA function and use. For more information or registration information, visit: https://lnkd.in/grgEscTF Registration Required by October 11, 2024: https://lnkd.in/guZiBgQ5 Submissions must be submitted to by November 12, 2024: Total cash prizes: $155,000 (The highest-ranking participant will receive a $70,000 prize, while the second and third-ranked participants will be awarded $50,000 and $35,000, respectively). For centuries, #wargames have proven to be an invaluable tool for #training, #education, and analysis by helping #defense professionals develop critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills before combat begins. As the United States #military prepares for future threats in an era of Great Power Competition (GPC), the defense establishment has placed increased interest and emphasis on #wargaming as a tool to develop the force. The Air Force Wargaming Institute (#AFWI) plays a crucial role in providing wargaming and analytical tools to Air Force organizations, the United States Department of Defense (#DoD), and international partners. Uniquely placed in the LeMay Center within Air University (AU) at Maxwell Air Force Base, AFWI is purpose-built to integrate strategic thinkers, lessons learned, and warfighting doctrine in an educational environment to enhance institutional understanding of complex problems. AFWI facilitates, designs, and executes multiple operational and force design wargames used to inform military planning and analysis across the spectrum of conflict. AFWI games are purpose built to address specific challenges and provide relevant and actionable insights directly to service and DoD level sponsors. AFWI’s knowledgeable and experienced team use computers, simulation models, board games, table-top exercises, and seminars to provide an intellectual laboratory, whereby participants can realistically study warfare and identify potential challenges before they arise in combat. In addition to operational and force design wargames, AFWI has designed and developed multiple more traditional style games as teaching tools, which professional Air Force education courses are actively incorporating into their curriculum. These educational games appear like commercial board or card games but differ in that they are designed to teach basic concepts and overarching theory in an approachable and time-efficient manner. Additionally, these educational games offer something more unique; they are fun to play! U.S. Air Force researchers see hybrid-electric flight as most promising. Agility Prime, the United States Air Force’s small electric aircraft program, has adjusted its research focus toward #hybrid-electric aircraft and autonomous flight in the belief that vehicles with these attributes will be most likely to make it across the figurative valley of death between research flights and acquisition of operational #aircraft. Under the 4-year-old program, companies developing electric air taxis mainly for civilian services have been paid to send experimental versions of their wares to various flight ranges, where Air Force pilots or contractors fly them. The goal is to “prime” commercial markets to produce such aircraft or related equipment for the military. The program is part of AFWERX, the Air Force Research Laboratory’s innovation arm with a site at Wright-Patterson in Dayton, Ohio, and four other locations around the country.
