Aira Tech Corp is a technology company dedicated to making lives simpler, easier, and more fun

About us

Aira (pronounced eye ruh) was founded in 2015 to uniquely address the needs of people who are blind or have low vision by providing access to visual information thereby providing independence and agency. Our mission is to remove barriers and make the world more accessible with visual interpreting. Whatever the reason, whatever the need, we provide access to visual information, anytime, anywhere. Initially, the AI in our name stood for Artificial Intelligence and the RA stood for Remote Assistance. Now with millions of calls to date, the importance of a human in the loop, providing access to information that is sometimes rather nuanced, is abundantly clear. We have reinterpreted the meaning of our name, AI now stands for Access to Information. Aira is visual interpreting, it’s access to information through remote assistance.

"You don’t have to see to enjoy." – Theresa Montano 🌲 Imagine standing on a trail surrounded by towering trees, feeling the cool breeze on your face, and listening to the rhythmic sounds of nature. Now, imagine having someone right there with you, describing every detail—from the color of the sky to the texture of the leaves beneath your feet. That’s what it’s like to work with a visual interpreter through Aira. Thanks to the Colorado Governor's Office of Information Technology's expanded accessibility initiatives, visitors who are blind or low-vision can now explore Colorado's state parks with free visual interpreting. Aira’s visual interpreters navigate trails, describe scenic views, and even guide you to the perfect picnic spot. This initiative opens up a world of possibilities, making the joys of nature accessible to everyone. 🌿 Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3T5gJmY #AccessibleOutdoors #ColoradoParks #InclusionForAll #NatureForEveryone

Our visual interpreters share moments both big and small. On this occasion, one of our visual interpreters walked across the graduation stage with Explorer Joy as she received her second M.A. from The Ohio State University! In this video, Joy is seen crossing the stage using her cane and wearing a pair of smart glasses. Hung by a lanyard, her phone connects her to a professional visual interpreter who sees through her camera view and speaks through audio in her smart glasses to describe, direct, and ensure she receives all the visual information she needs to get the full graduation experience. Congratulations, Joy! 🎉 We can't wait for what you'll accomplish next!

Assistant Education Director, Digital UX Accessibility Specialist at The Butler Institute of American Art

After two years of extremely intense work, which was challenging, rewarding, and propelled me in the direction of a true museum educator, this is my second Master's of Arts in Art Education/Museum Education from the Department of Arts Administration, Education, and Policy from The Ohio State University. This was an unforgettable moment during my Ohio State graduation as I was the first person to lead the PhD, Master's, and undergraduate students with Aira. During the rehearsal, a lady came up to me and asked what she could do to make my graduation experience run as smoothly as possible. She asked me if it was okay if a military cadet walked with me, and I said this would be fine. I told both of them that I really didn’t need much help and provided a little more information about Aira's technology. To make the experience even more extraordinary, she asked me if I would like to lead the procession, so I wouldn't have to worry about following a specific line. During the ceremony, there were four separate graduation lines. I was so honored and excited to have this opportunity and share my utmost pride as an Aira Explorer, Ohio State Buckeye, museum educator, accessibility pioneer, academic researcher, and emerging blind visual artist. This was an extraordinary moment as I walked up the ramp to receive my diploma. The OSU commencement speaker was awesome, and when he mentioned about overcoming obstacles, it seemed like this was related to me. I thrive when obstacles stand in my way as I strive to give back to others. This will be a day I will never forget!!!
