https://lnkd.in/ggwU3vAx A fascinating study on GitHub Copilot’s impact on productivity just came out, looking at over 4,000 engineers from Microsoft, Accenture, and other big companies. According to the paper, on average, Copilot boosts productivity by nearly a third. It’s not a silver bullet 10x improvement, but it’s still a pretty solid gain for the software industry. The study also found that Copilot has an even bigger impact on junior engineers and those who are new to the company — which makes sense, but it’s great to see that confirmed by data. These results are based on the version of Copilot between September 2022 and October 2023. Anyone who’s used Copilot over the past few years knows it’s gotten much better, so today’s numbers are likely even higher.
