Air Botswana hopes to have its three new Embraer aircraft and a basket of new regional routes up and running by September. The airline is adding three new E175s to its fleet, two configured with 50 seats and one 72-seater. Sales and Marketing Manager mogolo mokgosi confirmed with AirlinePros International that the acquisition was going ahead, but said schedules had yet to be loaded. Air Botswana wants to use the aircraft to add more regional flights. Potential new routes include Kasane to Cape Town, Maun to Cape Town, Maun to Kruger National Park, Kasane to Windhoek, Gaborone to Durban, and Gaborone to Windhoek. The airline is also looking to reinstate popular flights from Kasane to Johannesburg, Maun to Johannesburg, and Francistown to Johannesburg, which the airline suspended due to COVID-19. The new routes align with Air Botswana’s transformation plan, which aims to make it a leading airline in Africa. Rasebotsa Lulu, Air Botswana’s dynamic CEO, spoke about the airline’s ambitions during a welcome address at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Wings of Change—Focus Africa (hashtag#WoCFA) event in Johannesburg last month. Lulu emphasized Air Botswana’s role as a flag carrier and suggested that enabling tourism and economic activity was as important as profits. She said the airline would benefit significantly from more international feeder traffic coming to places like neighboring Namibia. “There is huge potential to do more in terms of connecting markets and linking global supply chains for the economic prosperity of Botswana as a country, SADC as a region, and Africa as a continent," the CEO added. ~ For the full story, see the latest issue of AirBorne Canada, AirlinePros' monthly newsletter for travel agents and trade partners: https://lnkd.in/gTJDRyUZ To subscribe: https://lnkd.in/dyyStMmP 🛫 📸 AirlinePros Group CEO Achma Asokan (left) and Lulu Rasebotsa, Air Botswana's CEO, were spotted together at the IATA Wings of Change – Focus Africa conference in Jo’burg. See you in Zanzibar! "AirlinePros works closely with a number of African airlines. We believe in the potential of the continent and we are proud to be associated with a number of African associations like AASA – Airlines Association of Southern Africa – and platforms like AviaDev. This year's edition of AviaDev at Windhoek, Namibia, was a huge success in bringing together airlines, airports, tourism authorities, governments, aviation experts, and suppliers. The masterclasses, workshops, one-to-one meetings, and networking opportunities made the event an outstanding one. My sincere appreciation to organizers Jon Howell and Mala Patel, I hope to see you in Zanzibar next year. I would also like to express my heartfelt congratulations to one of my oldest friends Joao Pó Jorge for the Girma Wake Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to develop aviation in Africa. His meritocratic approach at work has been instrumental to more female managers joining aviation and his ‘open heart’ policy has endeared him to the industry. Joao, all the best for your next chapter which I am sure will be amazing as well.” Achma Asokan, Group CEO, AirlinePros International. Global air connectivity fuels tourism and economic activity making it essential for airlines, airports and tourism authorities to work together seamlessly. AirlinePros International’s ‘Air Services’ division aims to create a sustainable ecosystem where airlines, airports and tourism authorities interact positively to form air service networks where each of the stakeholders realize their full potential. AviaDev Africa, taking off in Namibia this week is focused on growing connectivity to, from, and within Africa. Evaluating and creating demand for a destination is the basic of route studies and requires expertise and collaboration among diverse stakeholders like tourism authorities supported by the airport authorities, regulatory authorities, and the airlines, among others. The masterclass by Gavin Eccles, aviation and tourism development partner with AirlinePros International, promises to bring new insights into African aviation and ideas to support tourism boards’ vision to engage better with airlines to support their tourism development strategy. Some of the key topics covered include strategies for creating strong partnerships between tourism authorities and airports and airlines to open new air routes. Come join us for this masterclass – followed by a workshop – at AviaDev in Windhoek, Namibia. Understand the new realities in route connectivity to be explored. Get answers to million-dollar questions like ‘why an airline should fly to my airport and serve the destination.’ Drop a line if you have any queries: bd@airlinepros.net Or visit us at Stand No. G1 #AviaDev #aviationindustry Gavin Eccles #airlines #tourism #workshop #routedevelopment #AirlineProsAt #masterclass #africa #airconnectivity
