#FlashBackFriday. Originally located on the corner of Second and Main Street, the Galt House Hotel was the residence of Dr. William Craig Galt in the early 19th century. By 1835, the structure became a 60-room hotel known as Louisville's best hotel. But due to a fire in 1865, the Galt House rebuilt on First and Main Street where it stayed open until 1919. Over a half a century later, in 1972, the Galt House Hotel was re-established on Fourth Street as part of Louisville's Riverfront Urban Renewal Project. The West Tower is 25 stories high and features 130,000 square feet of meeting space, deluxe guest rooms, corner suites, and six restaurants. The East Tower, added in 1984, offers 650 suites, 130,000 square feet of meeting space, including more than 50 meeting rooms, two ballrooms and an exhibit hall.
