Had a great time kicking off this year’s L3X (LifeLong Learning Extravaganza) at the Tallahassee Senior Center. For the season opener, I presented “Artful Legacies,” sharing best practices of how to properly care for your most cherished possessions so they can be passed down to future generations. Next week, I’ll also host a Public Art Tour of the History and Culture TraiI. That session is sold out but there are tons of other options to enjoy. From now through Sept. 27, L3X will offer more than 50 classes, tours, and activities that explore the arts, culture, history, nature, science, and more! It was so great to give a squeeze to Quia Z Atkinson and celebrate the opening of her solo show at the Tallahassee State College Fine Art Gallery. I was lucky enough to mount her first solo show back in 2021 and I’ve loved watching her grow as an artist and develop new techniques. Check out her latest works in “𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙀𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙌𝙪𝙞𝙖 𝙕 𝘼𝙩𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙣,” on view through October 10 at the TSC gallery, 444 Appleyard Drive, Performing Arts Bldg. Keep up with her at QZ Design Gallery. #MakeItArtful #AktArtful

My pal Ashley Williams, curator at the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum, and I just installed their new show “Aviary: International Quilting and Fiber Art.” Fiber works are notoriously tricky to hang and this show was no different. I don’t usually consider straight pins to be hanging hardware but in some cases, they’re just the thing. This show is organized by Studio Art Quilt Associates and is a celebration of fiber masterpieces interpreting bird life in stunning detail. Artists hail from over 16 countries ranging from Iceland to Japan, and 13 U.S. States, ranging from Florida to California. The show opens on September 20, with a reception from 5 pm to 7 pm. Special programs and workshops will be offered throughout the run of show – keep an eye on Gadsden’s website for details! To book a guided tour for any group of four or more people, contact Kaiyla Thompson, Museum Educator, (850) 627-5023. #MakeItArtful #AKTArtful

I was having so much fun, I didn’t get any photos so I’m snagging this one from Venvi Art Gallery curator Rachel Smith. “T is for Tallahassee: The ABCs of Our Musical City” continues to inspire and delight and I’m ever grateful to the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra for asking me to help create this gem of a book. Big thanks to Brinda Pamulapati at Venvi for hosting this book signing event and also to Rachel Smith who designed the lovely exhibition, showcasing works by the talented artists featured in the book. If you don’t have a copy yet, why the heck not?! You can purchase it online at tallahasseesymphony.org, or in person at the TSO office, Venvi Art Gallery, Midtown Reader, LeMoyne Arts, or Hearth & Soul TLH. All proceeds go to support TSO Kids educational programming for young people! #MakeItArtful #AKTArtful
