About us
Established in1947, the Alabama Road Builders Association (ARBA) is dedicated to serving the specific needs of businesses involved in Alabama's transportation construction industry. We serve contractors, material suppliers, consulting engineers, and other professional service firms. We are the industry's forum for open communication with the Alabama Department of Transportation and other governmental agencies. Conveniently located down the street from the Alabama Statehouse and Capitol, ARBA is housed in its own building. ARBA is considered the headquarters for our industry and has a full-time staff ready to serve you. ARBA is a nonprofit organization of individuals and business firms actively engaged in the construction of transportation systems or in furnishing materials, equipment,, or services for such construction. ARBA is governed by its officers and Board of Directors, consisting of a President, Immediate Past President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Directors from all over the state. Committees are also established to address certain needs of the Association and its membership. The mission of ARBA is to foster and promote the finest in transportation for the state of Alabama.

Congratulations to Associate Member Thomas Hand, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Volkert, Inc., for being named by Governor Kay Ivey as one of six members to the new Executive Committee for workforce development that is the result of the Working for Alabama legislative package. In addition, Chris "Elroy Stricklin of the Dunn Construction family of companies was named by the Governor to the new Alabama Workforce Board. Earlier this year, MDOT, in collaboration with The Eastern Transportation Coalition (TETC), launched a pilot program to test the mileage-based user fee (MBUF). As vehicles become more fuel-efficient and electric, fuel sales—and consequently fuel tax revenue—are declining. The cost to drivers under this model is comparable to Maryland's current fuel tax, averaging about $27 per month. More project opportunities on the horizon for Alabama in addition to those funded by IIJA thanks to the efforts of Senator Katie Boyd Britt. FY2024 and 2025 include $40 million of appropriations to widen SR-167 between Troy and Enterprise. In addition, there is $30 million for APD projects, which may include more funding for the Birmingham North Beltline or other road projects on the ADHS system. Other infrastructure projects include $20 million for 4 National Scenic Byways, $13 million for airport infrastructure, and $5+ million for another intermodal container port facility in north Alabama, which should lead to road and bridge infrastructure improvements for access to I-65 and other major routes. #senatorkatiebritt #workingforalabama #InfrastructureFunding #TheRoadAhead #buildingalabamasfuture
