A day to celebrate. It's hard enough having Stage 3 cancer without also having to worry when your roof is leaking and several shingles have blown off. It's hard enough forever grieved after losing your home in a tornado and the same year being in a car accident that you survived but took the life of your husband and your ceiling is caving in due to rain leaking through the roof. You learn these stories when you serve. Your understanding of peoples' struggles becomes known. Empathy and compassion are your filters. Therefore, what a joy to help these two homeowners this past Saturday patch and tarp their roofs while we await longer-term solutions. Below is a picture of two good friends who served with ARM, COL(R) Erich Babbit and track coach Angela Rogers. We were able to minister with Ms. Bobbie and tarped her roof. She lost her husband years ago in a car accident. Today, she is full of life and possibility despite her financial limitations on basic social security. What a joy to know she is dry until we can find better solutions for her home. What a joy to pray alongside her and share God's care and provision. What a joy to see her smile and go into her home feeling safe, warm, and dry. She is filled with hope! You can come be a beacon of hope as well! About us
We are discovering, developing, and deploying spiritual leaders who, as disciples of Jesus, minister with rural and under-resourced communities to create sustainable homes, strengthen families, and build strategic community partnerships for the glory of God. Each year we host approximately 1000 volunteers of all ages who serve with low/fixed income families to make their homes warm, safe, and dry. In the summers, our youth volunteers also serve with children at Sonshine Kid's Day Camp. Our ministries serve with the people of rural Lee, Macon, and Sumter counties. Each summer we hire 14-16 college-aged students as summer mission interns who host our youth mission camp teams and serve as construction coordinators, day camp counselors, and mission site leaders.
