Family adventures is more than just finding that epic line.

About us

Alba Adventures based out of NYC, produces award-winning authentic family adventure film shorts, that capture what the spirit of skiing is all about; fun, family, friends and good turns on the mountains. But most importantly, it makes them want to go skiing with their family! After the loss of their oldest son and a long sabbatical from skiing; in 2010, Ray and Alicia Alba had planned on moving their family to California, to live a more outdoor lifestyle on the beach. However, Ray's job had different plans and had no option, but to stay in NYC. With much hesitation they moved to uptown Manhattan, and were dreading another NYC winter. On Christmas Day, their son Sandro then only 6 and daughter Nevada not quite 2, were gifted a freeboard from Santa and you can guess what happened, it snowed BIG! Not just a little, but enough to paralyze the city. They found a hill close by called Dead Man's Hill, a street closed off to traffic that lies parallel to a cemetery in Washington Heights. Sandro got on his freeboard and rode down the hill like he had been snowboarding his whole life. With Ray and Alicia remembering that feeling they used to have skiing down the mountains, before kids, they looked at each other and said, “how about we start skiing again?” And so Alba Adventures began, or at least filming the kids while skiing to remember these special memories, knowing how much they cherished the few videos they had of their oldest son. Fast forward to Winter 2018/19; Winning many film laurels and were recently selected for official screenings of their short films “Generations” by IF3, the "Cannes of the Ski World" and "In Maine" at the Maine Outdoor Film Festival. Ray and Alicia's intent is to make films that "capture what the spirit of skiing is all about; fun, family, friends and good turns on the mountains. But most importantly, it makes its viewers want to go outside and embrace these special moments!

This came as a surprise to us this morning and again shocked we qualified to be screened at the "Who is Who" of skiing film festivals at the famous iF3 Festival! Seriously stoked by this. I mean, we are not great skiers though we try to make it up with some relatable stories. We guess we got it sort of right again. Thank you IF3 for adding us to your incredible festival another year. Tony maybe we will see your family in Canada for this event. Burke Mountain - you might find this sort of cool too. Thank you Luc Skypowder and the iF3 Festival team for taking the time to review this edit. #stoked #if3 #skiing #skitheeast #film #festival #thankyou #event #canada #team

I was just trying to figure out why I got up so early today. Anxious most of the night for some reason and now I realize why I was so anxious. Today just so happens to be the day when our oldest would have turned 27. It’s crazy for me to think that Alicia and I have been parents this long and that our son Rocky would be turning 27. Many of you know the story about our son, his life and his disabilities and the challenges he faced from a young age. Some of you have been with us, a few of you close, through Rocky’s journey in life and I know it impacted you as greatly as it did us when our son passed away, now over 17 years ago. We know you loved him as much as we did, a great kid that loved you back, without being able to say it. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about our son and what could have been if things were different for him. I often wonder what kind of brother Rocky would have been to Sandro and to Nevada. My hunch is that he would have beat up his little brother, play fighting of course, and that he would have been overly protective of his little sister Nevada. I somehow think at times Rocky is around doing just those things for them, though we just can’t see it. At our age, many of us have experienced the loss of a family member, friend, a loved one. You all know how hard loss is, regardless of their age. Life is a funny thing in that it is so easy for it to be taken away, none of us should take it for granted. We live by the mantra to love our kids unconditionally, despite how hard that can be at times. Parenting isn’t easy. On that note, I wanted to say publicly the following: “Happy Birthday Rocky! We love and miss you. Not a day goes by that your mom and I don’t think about you. You came into our lives, totally unplanned, and from the moment we laid eyes on you, we knew that you would be a fighter. You changed our lives and you made us realize how important it was to be the best parent possible. It was hard, there were times that we may have failed, though we always tried and you gave us strength. You made us learn to see those kids that often go unseen, and when we now see parents like us, we try our best to first say hello to the child, then a big hello to the parents. We know that those parents love that we recognize their child who is often invisible and having experienced this ourselves. Something we would not have even realized without you. We love you Rocky. Love, love, love, love you. Hopefully on a day like today, you are hanging out at some beach in heaven with close friends and family. Riding the waves my son, “ Love, Mom and Dad

As our friend Creeper said, "Saturday was the day of the decade". He was right. Our footage from Saturday doesn't give it justice, though it was deep, fun and unforgiving at times. Just an amazing weekend. Who says you can't have friends on a powder day? We don't. It's more fun when you are with people that can ski and ride. It has been a while since we last did a real ski edit. This is a VLOG from this Saturday Pico Mountain.
