With flu season right around the corner, it's time to think about our health and well-being. Albertsons Companies’ pharmacies are committed to helping ensure our communities are protected against the flu and other vaccine preventable diseases. We're now scheduling annual flu vaccine appointments, and our pharmacists are ready to administer a range of additional vaccines for shingles, pneumonia, tetanus, HPV and RSV for eligible adults. Appointments can be made online today via our grocery store apps or websites. The CDC advises everyone over 6 months old to get a flu shot to help reduce the risk of influenza and its serious complications. According to the CDC, September and October are the optimal months for most people to get vaccinated. Earlier flu vaccination in August is recommended for the following groups: pregnant people who are in their third trimester; children requiring two doses of the flu vaccine; vaccination can be considered for children who have health care visits this month if there might not be another opportunity to vaccinate them; and adults, particularly those aged 65 and older, as well as pregnant individuals in their first and second trimesters who may not be able to be vaccinated in September or October. Our pharmacy teams are seasoned in delivering flu shots efficiently, and our pharmacists are on hand to answer any clinical questions and help customers make informed health decisions. Today is World Organ Donation Day, a day to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and celebrate the generosity of people who give the gift of life to others. We are so proud and grateful to have one of those amazing donors on our team: Bonnie Eckstein-Medvetz, Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition. Bonnie donated a kidney to a stranger last year, after a long and rigorous process of testing and preparation. She took a six-week leave of absence to recover from the surgery, and during that time, received full support and encouragement from her managers, colleagues, and the We Care team at Albertsons Companies. Bonnie shared, "Albertsons Companies is truly a family and community centered organization. I have never believed in that more wholeheartedly than I did going through this process last year." I donated a kidney to a stranger–then went on a six week leave of absence, and didn’t feel an ounce of pressure to check my email, hop on a call, or come in to work. What's more: - The whole process of testing, preparing and donating took 11 months - I transitioned managers midway through my journey - We were in the middle of a major project - AND I had just come back from my honeymoon when a match was found!! When I began my journey to see if I was a viable kidney donor and told my first manager, Monique Lanaux, that I was in the process of donating a kidney, she didn’t hesitate to show her support and help guide me with internal resources. “Whatever you need, we’re here for you. Let me connect you with the We Care team, and we can figure out what benefits you can use.” Halfway through the process, I had a change in leadership and transitioned to working with, John Bradley PHR. When I told John it was like talking to Monique all over again–all support, no hesitation. “How can I support you? What do you need? We are proud to have you on our team!” When I first joined Albertsons Companies almost 3 years ago, people told me that this wasn’t just a workplace; I was joining a community and the support from everyone validated that in ways I couldn’t have imagined In the year I spent on this journey – from learning about organ donation, going through various tests to see if I was a viable donor, then through surgery and recovery–I’ve been the recipient of so much love and support... Albertsons Companies is truly a family and community centered organization. I have never believed in that more wholeheartedly than I did going through this process last year. I feel so lucky to work with an organization that empowered me to feel secure and confident while providing me with resources I needed on this journey. Members of our SoCal Division came together this weekend to build 60 bed frames for kids in need with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This amazing organization provides beds for kids who don't have one, with a waiting list of more than 220 families still waiting for beds. Thank you to Gene Bendixen and the team at Albertsons #1348 in Santa Maria, CA for hosting the event and to all the volunteers that drove from far and wide to help out. And of course, thanks to Bobby Kennedy for bringing his hot dog cart to feed us! We also appreciate everyone who donated bedding for the kids. We collected over 60 sets of bedding, which will be delivered along with the bed frames and mattresses this week.
