Walsh Law is pleased to introduce Calvin Manahan, our outstanding 2024 summer associate. Calvin has quickly jumped into the firm’s day-to-day workflow and made significant contributions to several of the firm’s litigations, demonstrating the talent and enthusiasm needed to do great things in the legal world. Calvin is a native of Southern California who has traveled across the country to attend Harvard Law School, where he’ll begin his second year of law school in September. Prior to Harvard, Calvin worked at a boutique law firm whose work focused on patent applications and at a non-profit supporting human rights lawyers in the Philippines. He graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Political Science. The firm has been very lucky to have Calvin onboard this summer. He has provided indispensable help on several of our matters, ranging from our fight to hold social media firms responsible for damage to adolescent mental health to our representation of former detainees of the State of Maryland’s juvenile detention system. Calvin plans to pursue a career in litigation and we like to think that he’s come to the right place to learn from the best. He’ll continue helping the firm on a part-time basis this fall and will spend next summer at Sidley Austin. Calvin’s future is bright and we are thrilled to have helped build the foundation of a long and successful legal career.

https://lnkd.in/eheJMsd9 The U.S. Surgeon General has issued an urgent call to action regarding the impact of social media on youth mental health. As an attorney whose work often pits me against “some of the best product engineers and most well-resourced companies in the world,” as Dr. Vivek Murthy writes, his words really resonated with me: “There is no seatbelt for parents to click, no helmet to snap in place, no assurance that trusted experts have investigated and ensured that these platforms are safe for our kids. There are just parents and their children, trying to figure it out on their own, pitted against some of the best product engineers and most well-resourced companies in the world.” My work protecting children from harmful, addictive content on social media, as well as from predatory adults on children’s games, motivates me every day to do better for the next generation. #YouthMentalHealth #SocialMediaSafety

A troubling report on baby food safety. We are proud to be a national leader in efforts to clean up the supply of baby food sold in the US.
Thanks to WJLA-TV for revealing these concerning facts: — There are NO federal laws limiting the amount of lead, arsenic, and other neurotoxic heavy metals in babyfood. — There are NO FDA regulations requiring babyfood companies to test for lead, arsenic, or other neurotoxins before selling their products. — For years, these companies knowingly have sold babyfood containing these neurotoxins WITHOUT telling parents the truth about their products. The Bottomline: Babyfood companies are fully capable of selling clean baby food that is safe for our children. They have the technology. They just decline to use it. It’s time for industry to stop putting profit over safety. Our children’s health must come first.
