Alexander & Baldwin, the Honolulu Fire Department, Kailua Alert & Prepared, and the Kailua Neighborhood Board hosted a Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness Fair at Aikahi Park Shopping Center to share learning resources with the community. Thirteen emergency awareness and disaster preparedness groups presented information and offered tips for prevention planning. Last weekend, a group of A&B team members joined "Gay 4 Good" for a special Pride Month volunteer effort at the Honolulu Zoo! In a recent issue of Building Management Hawai’i, the industry magazine featured the completion of A&B’s latest rooftop solar project at Kaka’ako Commerce Center. The photovoltaic system began delivering renewable energy to the 201,500-square-foot industrial complex at the close of last year. The system comprises nearly 1,000 solar panels covering over 24,000 square feet. The 464-kilowatt system provides enough renewable energy to offset approximately 37% of the total energy usage at the center. In addition to generating clean power, the panels shade the building’s top-level parking area. “Integrating sustainable solutions into our commercial real estate portfolio isn’t just a commitment to the sustainability of our operations—it’s a deliberate investment in the well-being of the communities we serve,” said Francisco Gutierrez, senior vice president of development at Alexander & Baldwin. “This initiative enables us to make a meaningful environmentally friendly impact and serves as a practical measure to reduce long-term operational costs, benefitting both our tenants and the broader community.” A&B's renewable energy efforts date back nearly 120 years to its first hydroelectric facility on Kaua‘i. Today, A&B continues to prioritize renewable energy generation projects and expand other sustainability initiatives across its commercial real estate portfolio. A&B's current eco-initiatives include retrofitting its properties with efficient LED lighting and HVAC systems, EV charging stations, water submeters and low-flow fixtures, and water-smart landscaping. A&B continues to advance its clean energy generation initiatives and has three new solar projects scheduled for completion by year-end.
