People who work in healthcare in the US are often driven by a profound sense of purpose, but they face enormous challenges when trying to bring about change. In part, that’s because the system they work within is often complex and opaquely structured.  When our founding team came together to establish Aligned Marketplace, we shared a conviction that simplification is a crucial goal. Not only do we need to simplify the way primary care gets delivered, we also need to align the incentives between parties (hence the name “Aligned”). After talking for months with people involved in every aspect of the healthcare system, we realized that it is possible to bring together employers, primary care providers, and patients under a single model. Our first step in increasing America's healthspan is to offer the American workforce another option for how to engage with our healthcare system. An option that solves real problems around access and affordability to high-quality care while giving employees and their families their strongest ally in the healthcare system; an advanced primary care provider. This case study highlights the success of a recent employer who launched Aligned with their health plan members. In the first few weeks, 31% of all eligible members chose to enroll with Aligned and form a longitudinal primary care relationship. These are exciting times for primary care in the US, given its vast potential for reducing overall costs while increase healthspan of members.
