Dr. Meghan Martin, pediatric emergency medicine physician at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, said her home has flooded three times in the past four years, starting with Hurricane Idalia in late August 2023. “There’s a lot of people feeling that anxiety, feeling the stresses, compounding with two different storms so close together,” Martin said.... As Hurricane Milton approaches, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg is mobilizing its emergency response plans while still recovering from the recent impacts of Hurricane Helene. Melissa Macogay, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at the hospital, said they operate on a three-team approach to storm preparedness. “We start with a prep team who was really in place starting Sunday, once we learned that we had a high probability of the storm arriving,” Macogay explained. https://lnkd.in/ewAcM4-C

Below is a list of helpful resources: FEMA for financial help for temporary lodging, basic home repairs, and other disaster-caused expenses. Pinellas County Government for cooling stations and help clean up the damage and they’ll connect you with volunteers from local relief organizations, or call (727) 464-4333. American Red Cross for disaster assistance, including cleanup kits. City of St. Petersburg for free laundry services for residents without power and two weeks of fare-free bus service, or call 727-893-7111. CityofTampa Media for comfort centers that provide free food (lunch and dinner), resources, restrooms, showers, water, ice, and laundry services to those in need. Hillsborough County for comfort stations where people can use the restroom, shower, charge devices, washers/dryers, etc… curbside debris collection or more information on the Disaster Recovery Center.
