“I thought of this shot in the middle of the night and wrote it down before I forgot. So much of a working artist’s job is problem-solving. I thought of a few classic angles and poses to cover, but I wanted something with depth. A seamless studio setup is tough for this unless you’re on a giant stage and can do intricate lighting—I had neither option, plus I needed something that I could do in under a minute. So this idea came out. ‘Everything’s been done’ is a snarky yet mostly true sentiment in this biz, but I scoured a while and couldn’t find this concept. I tested it on set with a stand-in, and figured it was good enough of an idea to give it a try when 15 was in front of the camera. I looove working with children! But gotta be honest, I never quite knew how to work with child models until my own son Leon grew to a similar age! I used to baby talk them too much and get overly nervous which made everything slightly awkward. But now it's such a joy as children get into a play mode very easily and really feel the scenarios. Every time it's like a big play date. Hot tip: Knowing gen alpha lingo and dropping an occasional brainrot Ohio or skibidi toilet reference also helps, hahahaha.
