Here are some insights from one of our therapist on staff Denise Dougherty, LPC. "My long term goals: are to go back to school for a certification in Play Therapy. I would also like to put together groups and or seminars to educate others (therapists, doctors, nurses, healthcare workers & parents) about how to recognize an eating disorder and how to go about supporting someone with an eating disorder. Additionally, I'd like to run a multitude of therapy groups and get my CADC certification." "I look forward to watching clients reach their goals and realize how far they have come in their journey." "I have 2 favorite phrases...that I say to my clients quite frequently:" "Anxiety/worry does not take away tomorrow's troubles. It takes away today's peace." "No amount of guilt can change the past. No amount of anxiety can change the future." Here is the link to book with her: https://lnkd.in/gzQFCCa3

Her are some insights from one of our therapist on staff: Jessica Harberts, LSW. "My long-term goal is to establish my own practice to create a therapeutic environment that aligns with my values, get more certifications to enhance my ability to provide comprehensive and effective treatment to a diverse range of clients, and maybe one day contribute to mental health research." "When working with clients, I most look forward to witnessing their growth and progress. Seeing clients develop new insights, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals. The therapeutic relationship is a unique and privileged space where deep personal transformation can occur, and being a part of the journey is inspiring. I also value the opportunity to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and supported." One of my favorite quotes is from Victor Frankl: "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." "This quote resonates with me when discussing empowerment through acceptance, as we focus on what we can control. This is a core principle in many therapeutic approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). " Here is the link to book with her: https://lnkd.in/gqDCRKTD

Here are some insights from one of our therapist on staff Shannon Rodgers, LSW. "My long term goals are: Reach my LCSW licensure before this winter and train in EMDR and Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. Eventually, the goal has always been to open my own private practice. I'd love to add divorce recovery coaching and finish the book I've been writing-tho completely separate from therapy work. I think group work under that setting would be super beneficial for those in the deep trenches." "I love that my clients teach me new stuff all the time and they've helped direct my focus more towards recovering from relational traumas. In researching the best practices for them, I've learned so much more hands on than any textbook or classroom can teach. I am incredibly grateful that they trust me with their deepest pain and show up for their healing and growth. I am humbled and honored every day that I get to work in this field." My favorite quote is: "You're growing through what you're going through". "I want to encourage my clients that in trusting themselves and the work we're doing together, they'll come to see the pain, grieving, suffering, or exploration for understanding - won't be wasted. It isnt for nothing. The version of themselves they'll meet on the other side of it all will understand why things unfolded as they did and how they were able to use all of it as a launching pad to become their best selves." Here are some insights from one of our therapist on staff Keyundra Perdue, LSW. "My long term goals are to one day have my own private practice." "What I look for the most when working with clients is their progress towards treatment. This lets me know I am doing my job effectively and the client is also learning/utilizing interventions discussed during session." My favorite quote is: “Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don't stop. Start where you are, with what you have. Just... Start.” Keyundra further elaborates and shares that "the word THERAPY alone can be very frightening. Speaking with someone you don’t know can be difficult until that rapport is built. No matter where a client may be mentally I want them to know help is always a call/bookings away to work towards improving their situation." Let's get to know some of our amazing mental health counselors we have on staff! Here are some insights about one of our therapist at our Chicago location! Meet Jess Harberts, LSW. I love the relationship building and rapport throughout my current time as a therapist and the roles I had before as a social worker. I pursued this career because my dream was to always be in a help profession, whatever that looked like. I love all the different facets of being a social worker and connecting with communities. Something unique about me as a therapist, is I love to run with humor especially with my younger clients. My background in the prison systems and child protection has shown me there is always a small space for humor and laughing is a shared language. For fun outside of the therapy room, I love to spend time by the lake in the warm weather and find myself in new bookstores around the city. Spending time with friends is always important and going on long walks even when the temps start to drop.

Let's get to know some of our amazing mental health counselors we have on staff! Here are some insights about one of our therapist at our Chicago location! Meet Jillian Wood; LCSW, CADC I love helping the clients I work with become better and/or happier versions of themselves. Before becoming a therapist, I attempted to become an Interior Designer. I quickly discovered that although I love decorating my own space, I didn’t want to do that for a living. I switched my focus to Psychology and then Human Services with a focus on Addictions and the rest is history. I became a Therapist after working for many years as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor. I loved working with people and helping them to find, establish, and maintain their path to recovery. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Drug Courts and Medication-Assisted Treatment, as that is where my journey began.  However, I got burned out and a friend in the field suggested that I look to see which parts of being a Social Worker I enjoyed the most. Since day one, I have always loved completing assessments and providing therapy. I love learning more about the clients I work with and view the therapy process as a bit of a puzzle. I especially love that moment when the “puzzle piece” “clicks into place” and the client is able to see something for the first time. I will always be a cheerleader for the clients I work with! My heart and my passion for helping others are my biggest assets. I approach therapy from a place of empathy and unconditional positive regard, and assume that the client is the expert of their own experience. Sometimes a difference perspective is all that’s needed and sometimes it’s more than that. I let the client direct the flow of the session and I offer any insight or applicable tools that might be helpful. I use humor, sarcasm on occasion, and definitely appreciate a good pun or Dad Joke! I will also challenge the clients I work with and believe that honesty is one of the best tools we have as Therapists. I have been using Transcendental Meditation as a tool for self-care off and on for years! I find that it helps to calm my vibrant inner monologue and helps me to reconnect with self. I LOVE music! I don’t currently play any instruments, but I have an extensive Spotify library and have been to many, many concerts. I love singing along to my favorite songs (solo or at a live show) and playing either the air drums or air guitar if I’m feeling like it. I love the city of Chicago. I’m a die-hard Cubs fan. I love walking along the lakefront with my fiancé, jumping the waves at the beaches, checking out the skyline, and checking out the many amazing restaurants around the city. At some point, I want to check out a Michelin-Starred restaurant. It’s near the top of my bucket list. I love traveling, hiking, cooking, and enjoy a good bonfire and fun game night with great friends.
