🇫🇷 Strengthening Franco-Texan Ties: Ambassador Laurent Bili’s Visit to #Houston 🇺🇸 We are excited to share that the French Ambassador to the United States, Laurent Bili, visited Houston, Texas, marking a milestone in fostering French-American relations and celebrating the enduring bond between France and Texas! Ambassador Bili was warmly welcomed at a special reception hosted by the Consulate General of France in Houston and Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, at the Alliance Française de Houston. Emeline Colson, our Executive Director made the trip to join this meaningful gathering, where she connected with the Ambassador, the Consul General of France, Valérie Baraban, and the French community in Houston. She took the opportunity to exchange with Elodie Ricolfi, Director of the Alliance Française de Houston. Together, they explored ideas for future projects that will unite our two growing institutions and enhance our shared mission of promoting French culture and language across Texas. The visit underscores the importance of our collaborative efforts to build vibrant, cross-cultural communities that celebrate Franco-Texan friendship and open doors for future partnerships. Do you know why the iconic monument of #Dallas is called “La Reunion tower”? Did you know that the first piano in Dallas came from the French? And the first brewery, wagon shop and butcher shop? Join us on October 5th in Dallas for a unique Symposium hosted by the Alliance Française de Dallas, celebrating for the first time the fascinating history of the La Réunion colony! Established by French, Belgian, and Swiss immigrants in 1855, La Réunion was a bold experiment in communal living, blending ideals of socialism, cooperation, and artistic expression. A lineup of historians, city officials, distinguished guests, and descendants of the original colonists will delve into the story of Dallas’s French roots and the utopian colony that, in such a short time, made a significant cultural and economic impact on our city. In conjunction with the Symposium, the The Road to Texas (Deep Vellum), chronicling the journey of European settlers to Texas, will be discussed. “It was a dream that became a reality and then a disappointment.
