In Episode 2 of #DecodingAI, Vishwesh Pai, Senior Director of Product Management for AI Platforms at ServiceNow, and Accel's Anagh Prasad discuss how enterprise decision-makers approach AI adoption. The conversation covers: 💡 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 Instead of creating standalone AI products, ServiceNow integrates AI into existing workflows, enhancing productivity and customer outcomes. Startups could follow this approach by embedding AI where it makes the most impact. 💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘃𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 Vishwesh reveals how ServiceNow decided to build their own LLMs, like the StarCoder series, for better security control. Founders must weigh the pros and cons of building in-house vs. using third-party models, balancing cost, agility, and customization. 💡 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 Enterprises prioritize trust and transparency, and startups that bake these principles into their solutions will stand out to buyers. In a significant boost to the startup ecosystem, the government has proposed to abolish the angel tax on all asset classes, as announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the presentation of the Union Budget for 2024-25. This move eliminates the burdensome Section 56 (II) (viib) of the Income Tax Act, which previously taxed any consideration of issue of shares that exceeded the fair value of shares issued by a privately-held company. What Does This Mean for Startups? 1. Increased Investment : The abolition of the angel tax will likely lead to a surge in investments from angel investors. By removing this tax, startups will find it easier to secure funding, driving growth and innovation. 2. Enhanced Valuations: Startups can now issue shares without worrying about the fair value constraints imposed by the angel tax. This change will help startups achieve more accurate valuations reflective of their potential and market expectations. 3. Global Competitiveness: This move aligns India’s startup ecosystem with global standards, making it a more attractive destination for foreign investors. Startups will benefit from a more favorable investment climate, encouraging international venture capital. 4. Encouragement for Founders: Founders can now focus more on building their businesses rather than navigating complex tax regulations. This simplification will foster a more dynamic and vibrant entrepreneurial environment. A Step Towards Growth and Innovation The proposed abolition of the angel tax is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a robust startup ecosystem. By alleviating financial and regulatory burdens, this initiative is poised to unleash a new wave of innovation and growth in the Indian startup landscape. A special mention goes to Siddarth Pai, whose persistent efforts and initiative in openly addressing this issue have been instrumental in fostering the growth of the ecosystem. By highlighting the problems of triple taxation and more, and closely working with regulators,he has played a crucial role in bringing about this positive change. As we look forward to this change, it's clear that the future is bright for Indian startups. Let's seize this opportunity to propel our ventures to new heights and contribute to the country's economic growth and technological advancement.
