As the first week of 2024 Olympic competition comes to a close, athletes are most likely feeling a multitude of emotions. There's the highs: Joy, Pride, Accomplishment, Excitement But there are also lows that might not be talked about enough: Exhaustion, Defeat, Depression, Confusion Just because they are the best athletes in the world does not mean they do not struggle with their mental health ‼️ HBO's documentary "The Weight of Gold" features a variety of Olympic athletes who discuss their experiences with mental health before, during, and after their Olympics run(s) and specifically the "post-Olympic depression" that so many athletes go through following the games. Strongly recommend the watch! That being said, please consider the content warnings before viewing ❤️ #AFA #athletementalhealth #TheWeightOfGold #MichaelPhelps #Olympics #Paris2024 #OlympianMentalHealth

The 2024 Olympics are officially here! This year and always, remember that all athletes, Olympians included, are HUMAN! Not everyone can medal and most unfortunately don't. That doesn't mean they are not worthy of appreciation for all the work they put in to make it to the games and compete of the biggest stage. As you cheer on your favorite team, athlete, or sport over the next couple weeks, keep in mind that they have enough pressure on them and don't need to come home and see comments online about their performance. The athletes featured here were part of an incredibly powerful documentary on HBO Max called "The Weight of Gold" in which several athletes discuss mental health challenges before, during, and after their Olympics journey. Please take into account the content warnings for this documentary before viewing ❤️ #AFA #athletementalhealth #Olympics #OlympianMentalHealth #TheWeightofGold #Paris2024

Since her decision to prioritize her mental well-being during the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles has brought important attention to the topic of mental health in sports. The powerful statement sparked conversations about the pressures athletes face and the importance of mental health support. Biles' bravery in speaking out about her struggles serves as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that it's okay to prioritize self-care. Her actions have inspired many to start important conversations and seek help when needed. 🤸♀️ We wish the best of luck to Simone and her USA Gymnastics teammates in the upcoming Paris Olympics! #AFA #athletementalhealth #mentalhealth #SimoneBiles #USAGymnastics #Olympics #BIPOCMentalHealthAwarenessMonth
