In the last 24 months, AI has exploded into the daily business vernacular and equally, the concepts of the digital twin have seemed to wane. The interesting part of this is that aspects of the digital twin are fairly essential to operating a thoughtful and effective AI strategy for the enterprise. For those not well versed, a digital twin is a virtual representation of an object or system designed to reflect a physical object accurately. It spans the object's lifecycle, is updated from real-time data and uses simulation, machine learning and reasoning to help make decisions. We're seeing this have particular applicability in: Digital Twins for Factories Digital Twins for Predictive Maintenance Digital Twins for Healthcare Digital Twins in Construction With transformation of physical to digital across: 1) Real world entity or Process 2) The Virtual Representation of that entity or Process 3) The data that connects the two If you're in an enterprise ecosystem with physical product created, you should have a plan around the "PhyGital" representation of your products, processes and operations. To get on it, there are standards that organizations like The Digital Twin Consortium have landed that work to create a common definition of the digital twin and qualifiers across: ➡ Synchronization ensures the digital twin and the represented entity mirror each other as closely as possible. ➡ The frequency, or speed, at which data gets updated in a digital twin can vary enormously, from seconds to weeks to on demand, depending on the purpose. ➡ Fidelity is the degree of precision and accuracy of the virtual representation and the synchronization mechanism. <continued in the comments>
