Congratulations to Altruist client Wonderland Child & Family Services for landing a $3m investment from the Ballmer Foundation for expanding services to children with prenatal substance exposure. This comes on top of Wonderland's success capturing permanent funding from WA state. CEO Mary Kirchoff and her board and team continue to demonstrate bold leadership attacking a huge social challenge touching 1 in every 10 (!) children. Shocking how under addressed this is. Time to make a confession. The biggest personal shame and professional embarrassment of my career have resulted from my inability to successfully follow my own organizational growth methodology. While the small boutique I founded in 2006 has consistently catalyzed accelerated revenue, impact and scale for nonprofits everywhere, racking up what appears to be an unparalleled track record, I have NOT been able to figure out how to scale up the delivery of the model beyond 1-1 coaching. My first attempt was back in 2013, and over a decade of repeated attempts - and face plants - followed. Even though I knew my goal was super hard and the probability of success was small, I kept repeating to myself the same advice I gave clients: "Growth is hard. Marry the goal, date the strategy. Keep trying." But how frustrating! Every day for years the old cliches rung like gongs in my brain: "Bong! Doctor, heal thyself! Bong! Cobbler's children have no shoes!" Well, I think I FINALLY dated a strategy that didn't throw a drink in my face and storm out of the restaurant after five minutes. Just like love, successful strategy is obvious. Now, to my constant disbelief, _Scaling Altruism_ has sat on the nonprofit bestseller list since the day it was published a month ago. I'm getting more and more messages from social impact leaders everywhere about how much the book is helping them. And our nonprofit accelerator is off to an awesome start, with applications coming in every day... No dancing in the end zone here, mind you. We are a LONG way from having the impact we aspire to. That said, this is the very first, honest-to-goodness traction point toward scaling up our own impact. Please let me tell you how good it feels to get a big fat kiss from a strategy after a terribly difficult eleven years of continuous failure. 😍 Whatever YOU are doing, don't quit. Don't ever quit.
