Unwelcome election results aren't an excuse for students (or outraged faculty members) to violate campus protest protocols. https://lnkd.in/gx7Qd2_T

About us
The Alliance brings together alumni groups that have a focus on supporting free speech, academic freedom, and viewpoint diversity at their colleges and universities. Well-deserved coverage of a much-needed effort to cultivate a renewed culture of civil discourse and debate on American college campuses. And boy is THAT needed. Programs like this are why AFSA and our affiliates love working with Bridge USA, Braver Angels, and the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. https://lnkd.in/gnJMSxWr

New Jefferson Council President Joel Gardner recalls the angry and incendiary student protests he experienced at the University of Virginia when he was a student there 50 years ago. Just how bad was it? Gardner played a major role in preventing the President's mansion from being burned down. He also discusses the need to lower current tensions on campus by restoring a lost tradition of respectful debate and discourse at UVA and other schools. https://lnkd.in/gibR5Fqa

If you had only one thing to read this week . . . we would recommend this devastating New York Times exposé of the costly but counterproductive "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" blob devouring the University of Michigan. https://lnkd.in/dq6S5wPc

This short video, created by our allies at the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, does a wonderful job of explaining what the Alumni Free Speech Alliance is all about. It's a truly grassroots movement that's saving higher education one alma mater at a time. We invite your participation, encouragement, and financial support.

Columbia University saw a nearly 30% drop in donations this Giving Day, a stunning shortfall that only deepens what The Columbia Spectator describes as a "donor crisis." Could stories like the one below help explain it? https://lnkd.in/gEFuuHtb

ICYMI, Princetonians for Free Speech and The Princeton Open Campus Coalition on Friday co-hosted a lively and excellent debate on the topic: "Biden V Scotus: Should the Supreme Court be Restructured?" Penn Prof. Kermit Roosevelt and Adam White of the American Enterprise Institute dueled brilliantly over the question. https://lnkd.in/g5kx8rCb

AFSA Chairman and Jefferson Council President Tom Neale was just on with Jerry Miller to talk about . . . well, to talk about almost everything related to TJC's work at the University of Virginia. Topics included: Is UVA tarnishing Thomas Jefferson’s legacy? Is UVA's honor system being watered down? UVA’s diversity, equity and inclusion bureaucracy Has UVA appropriately managed pro-Palestine protests? UVA's tour guide suspension: was it the right move? This is what it looks like when alert and engaged alumni -- AFSA alumni -- take action. Congrats to AFSA Chairman Tom Neale and the activist alumni with The Jefferson Council for blowing the whistle on this. https://lnkd.in/gmSGDPCS

We agree with the general proposition that legislative "fixes" too often take a blunt-force approach that causes more problems than they solve. But sometimes it pays to take a closer look. https://lnkd.in/gzCfhs8c
