On September 7th, many neighbors and friends came out to the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose for the 2nd annual Kristi Yamaguchi's Family Literacy Festival! Together, we spent the day reading, playing, dancing, and celebrating the power of and joy of literacy. We want to send a big thank you to San José Public Library Foundation and Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose for being fantastic co-hosts, our generous sponsors, special guests, and all of the community members who made this event a huge success. Reading together makes our communities better. We’re excited to keep celebrating that in the Bay Area and beyond.

This year marks an exciting milestone for Always Dream - we just passed the $3 million mark with our budget as we expand our reach and impact through our Always Reading program. This transformative programming allows us to provide even more families with the tools and resources they need to support their child's early literacy journey, ensuring brighter futures for nearly 5,000 young readers and their family members this year. We're thrilled to announce our expansion in the San Francisco Bay Area for the 2024-25 school year. The addition of six new schools brings our total number of school partnerships in California to 17, impacting nearly 2,500 students and family members in communities such as San Jose, San Francisco, San Pablo, and Richmond. In many of these communities, limited access to age-appropriate books makes it challenging for students to arrive at school ready to learn. Our Always Reading program directly addresses this issue by providing each family with a tablet and digital library access, instantly putting 40,000 age-appropriate books into their hands, and providing the coaching support needed to start reading consistently, and get ready for school. We're excited to announce that Kristi Yamaguchi’s Always Dream is expanding to 19 schools across four islands in Hawaiʻi this school year. We're thrilled to partner with amazing new communities like Lāhainā on Maui, Waiʻanae on Oʻahu, and Kaʻū on Hawaiʻi Island to provide over 2,400 keiki and their family members with literacy and family engagement tools to succeed in school and in life. This year also marks an important milestone as we are over halfway to our goal of serving 4,000 individuals annually in the Rainbow State by the end of 2027.
