Dr. Adrianna Nava is a registered nurse and immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), the nation’s leading professional society for Latino nurses. Through her experience in these roles, she has seen the impact of Alzheimer’s and dementia on both patients and their entire support system. Dr. Nava understands the unique challenges Hispanic Americans face in accessing information on Alzheimer’s, getting connected with care and support resources and playing an active role in dementia research. Hispanics are 1.5 times more likely than Whites to have dementia, which is why Dr. Nava feels it is integral that NAHN and the Alzheimer’s Association work together towards closing this health equity gap. The Alzheimer’s Association partners with NAHN on community outreach and education initiatives that help increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the Hispanic community, provide care and support resources and encourage participation in research studies. Join us in thanking Dr. Nava and the members of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses for their commitment to the fight to #ENDALZ, and learn more about our DEI national partnerships at bit.ly/4cZvHC4. 💜 #HispanicHeritageMonth

Edward Jones is truly invested in a future without Alzheimer’s. Since 2016, as a Diamond National Team for Walk to End Alzheimer’s, they have raised over $25 million through more than 25,000 Walk teams and 119,000 participants for the fight to #ENDALZ — and those numbers continue to climb! That brings their total contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association since 2016 to over $49 million toward a pledged goal of $50 million by 2025. Talk about strength in numbers 💪. Thank you, Edward Jones! #Walk2EndALZ

Sheldon Hudlin describes his mom as someone who was “very hard working, a great cook, and loved her family.” She was filled with energy and radiated joy. He first noticed a change in his mom when she started repeating things several times in the same conversion. Sheldon was unfamiliar with dementia when his mom was first diagnosed, but he knew it was making her into someone new. Sheldon decided he needed to learn more about dementia. When a close friend asked him to join him for Walk to End Alzheimer’s, he was all in. Through his participation in Walk, Sheldon connected with others who were facing Alzheimer’s and other dementia, and he learned about the resources that were available. As his mother’s dementia progressed, Sheldon was emotionally exhausted and broken. He reached out to a mentor for some words of wisdom. His friend told him to “just love on your momma,” completely changing Sheldon's outlook. From that day forward, he loved on his mom like each day could be her last. He painted her nails purple, which was her favorite color. They would go out for Chinese food and talk and laugh for hours, only for her to forget the next day. On April 24, 2018, Sheldon’s mom passed away. Now Sheldon continues to support the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his mom. “The Alzheimer’s Association has made big strides towards a world without Alzheimer’s, and we need to keep the momentum going.” Join Sheldon in making a difference by participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer’s near you: alz.org/walk. #NationalSonsDay

Three years ago, Ruth Lenk lost her mother to Alzheimer’s just days before she was set to participate in Walk to End Alzheimer’s with her sisters. “Being at Walk with so many people who understood what we were going through was incredibly moving. I can't bring my mother back but I can raise awareness and hope that a cure will be found,” said Ruth. In the beginning Ruth and her sisters walked for their mother—who lived with Alzheimer’s for nearly 14 years, as her mother had before her. The disease also claimed the life of her father, who selflessly looked after her mother until his heart gave out. Now Ruth also walks for her mother-in-law, who was recently diagnosed. She prays that her siblings and their spouses don’t have to go through the same struggles as her parents. But she believes “there is hope for my daughters and yours!” Help us thank Ruth Lenk and her team, Chai Hopes, who have raised more than $11K (and counting) this year to help #ENDALZ. Join Ruth and her sisters by registering for a Walk to End Alzheimer’s near you: alz.org/Walk. #NationalDaughtersDay

Alzheimer’s has not directly impacted Dr. Jorge Llibre-Guerra’s family, but from the moment he started medical school, he was deeply intrigued by how the brain governs emotions, cognition and the intricate processes that define our lives. His passion for dementia research focuses on ways he can translate his findings into clinically meaningful interventions that can make an impact and improve the lives of the patients he meets through his clinical practice. For Dr. Llibre-Guerra, knowing that his work could contribute to real, meaningful change keeps him dedicated to advancing our understanding of dementia and finding solutions. He is deeply inspired by the commitment of the individuals and families who have been impacted. Being funded by the Alzheimer’s Association is incredibly meaningful to Dr. Llibre-Guerra. To him, it represents not only a vote of confidence in his research but also a powerful opportunity to contribute to the global fight to #ENDALZ, a responsibility he carries with great pride. #HispanicHeritageMonth #ALZFunded
