The future of dementia science is bright 💡 thanks to dedicated researchers from around the world, including Argentine neuropsychologist Dr. Lucía Crivelli. “Funding from the Alzheimer's Association has been very important in my career, but it has also been very important for my region. The Association is funding LatAm-FINGERS — this trial is taking place in 12 countries across Latin America to study risk reduction and dementia prevention in the region. I am very excited about dementia prevention and risk reduction, primarily in low to middle income countries, because I know we can make a difference there. I am hopeful about the new treatments that are studying to surge. I'm also hopeful about changing people’s lifestyles to prevent diseases that don't have to take place.” Dr. Lucía Crivelli, an Alzheimer’s Association funded neuropsychologist and member of @ISTAART #BrightMinds #ALZfunded #AAIC24

"I lost my mom to Alzheimer's in 2017. She faded away right before our eyes. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's just two months after losing her. We have to end this disease so no other families suffer. This is why I participate in #Walk2EndAlz and share my story as an Alzheimer’s advocate. With my mom, I did not know what was happening or what to expect. Now, understanding what is to come, I am determined not to count the days but instead to make his days count. We are checking things off his bucket list, like riding in a fast car around a track, getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the Phoenix Zoo, having a senior prom for him since he never had one, and getting a ride in a lowrider. To honor the memory of my mom and the journey my dad is now on, I became an Alzheimer's advocate to join others in the fight to end Alzheimer's. My voice is valued and can lead to change. I share our story so others can learn from it and so other caregivers know they are not alone. I see them. I understand them. Although these have been the hardest years of my life, especially as an only child, I know I am blessed. The Alzheimer's journey truly takes a village, and my village is strong. There is a quote that I use often: ‘I am an Alzheimer's daughter.... if you think my hands are full, you should see my heart!’" - Merry G. This is why we walk. 💜 Find a Walk near you at alz.org/walk to join Merry and her dad in the fight to #ENDALZ.

“Besides being the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research, the Alzheimer’s Association provides researchers with a phenomenal network and community. They also support science on a global level. Our understanding of Alzheimer's and disease research is not equal across all parts of the globe, but the Alzheimer's Association is doing a phenomenal job trying to equalize that.” -Nilufer Ertekin-Taner, M.D., Ph.D., an Alzheimer’s Association funded neuroscientist, behavioral neurologist and Chair of Department of Neuroscience at Mayo Clinic, and member of ISTAART. #BrightMinds #ALZFunded #AAIC24
