The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is the national voice for academic nursing education. AACN works to establish quality standards for nursing education; assists schools in implementing those standards; influences the nursing profession to improve health care; and promotes public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice. Day two of this year's Deans Annual Meeting is off to an incredible start! Dr. Ted Mitchell, President of the American Council on Education (ACE), presented a compelling session on the current state of higher education, addressing the most critical and pressing challenges in today’s environment. Attendees then had the opportunity to engage in dynamic discussions with peers from similar institution types, including small and liberal arts colleges, public colleges and universities, private colleges universities, and academic health centers. These focused conversations provided a valuable space to share solutions, explore common challenges, and exchange innovative strategies to advance priorities in academic nursing. Attention nursing students: The deadline is approaching to enter The Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s annual Dr. Hope Babette Tang Humanism in Healthcare Essay Contest. Three winning essays by nursing students will be published in the Journal of Professional Nursing and the AAMC’s Academic Medicine journal. Cash prizes will also be awarded: $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place. Essays of 1,000 words are fewer must illustrate a real-life experience in which the nursing student or a healthcare team member worked to ensure that humanism was at the core of care. This week, our team attended the 2025 Equity in Nursing Summit, a new event hosted by the American Nurses Association that reinforces a collective commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive profession for all nurses. We were especially proud to see Dr Wanda Thruston, DNP, APRN, PNP-PC represent AACN on the panel “Advancing Nursing Education: Building an Inclusive Future.” Her insights underscored the critical role of inclusive nursing education in shaping a diverse, well-prepared workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
