October is Global Diversity Awareness Month As per City Year "we celebrate Global Diversity Awareness Month, an opportunity to honor the rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives that make up our world. In a society that is becoming increasingly interconnected, recognizing, and cherishing the diverse minds and cultures surrounding us is not just a nicety but a necessity.". Please learn more about how you can celebrate this month at 👉 https://loom.ly/_VYu2yI We at the ADTA recognize that a major part of celebrating diversity is also recognizing and addressing personal bias. Due to this we encourage all to check out the presentation "Moving: Cultural Bias in the Movement Repertoire of Dance/Movement Therapists" by Ebony T. Nichols M.A., R-DMT, CAT-LP at ➡️ https://loom.ly/5IcktyA . . . . . . . . . . . . . #GlobalDiversityAwarenessMonth #CityYear #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI #Culture #DanceTherapy #MovementTherapy #ADTA

October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month As per the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) "In the 1980s, NDSS participated in the efforts to have October proclaimed “Down Syndrome Awareness Month,” or “DSAM,” and this designation continues today. DSAM seeks to break down barriers and focus on promoting advocacy for people with Down syndrome.". October is recognized as #ADHDAwarenessMonth ... Here are two Myths & Facts about ADHD that you may not know: MYTH: "Everyone has a little ADHD." FACT: Everyone does not have a physical difference in their brain. The symptoms of ADHD exist within a continuum of typical human behavior. People with ADHD show behaviors resulting from experiencing inner dysregulation. These behaviors include forgetfulness, distractibility, impulsivity and an inability to focus. For people with ADHD, these behaviors are disruptive. And they happen more often, with greater intensity, severity, and chronicity than for people without ADHD. MYTH: "People grow out of being ADHD." FACT: Significant symptoms and impairments persist in 50-86% of people with ADHD. Children diagnosed with ADHD are not likely to grow out of it, meaning that they will be un-symptomatic and unimpaired in adulthood, or indistinguishable from control children followed contemporaneously. #DanceMovementTherapy is one strategy to support the process of self-acceptance and improve functioning for those who identify as an #ADHDer or having #ADHD. https://loom.ly/YjRXQls https://lnkd.in/e8A44GW7 . . . . . #AttentionDeficitHyperactivityDisorder #neurodevelopmental #MentalHealth #BehaviorTherapy #CreativeArtsTherapies #ExpressiveArtsTherapies #DancePsychotherapy #DancePsychology
