About us
At American Electric Power, we provide more than electricity to our millions of customers – we energize possibilities. We’re redefining the future of energy by reducing our carbon footprint, empowering the communities we serve and developing the workforce for the future. All while delivering the reliable and affordable service our customers expect. We remain committed to a clean energy future and are shifting to a more balanced generation mix. We’ve cut our carbon dioxide emissions significantly since 2000 and continue to expand our renewable energy sources, while encouraging electrification to lessen our environmental footprint. AEP owns and operates the largest transmission system in the country, and our distribution networks provide power to homes and businesses in 11 states. We continue to invest billions in our infrastructure to deploy cutting edge technologies that support the clean energy transition and enhance service for our customers. Our employees power everything we do, which is why we’re focused on hiring and retaining top talent, reimagining the future of work and offering competitive pay and benefits. Diversity, equity and inclusion are cornerstones of our company culture, and we continually seek out new skills and perspectives that spark innovation. We're so proud to share this story. Our team doesn’t just keep the lights on — they show true respect for what matters. A big thanks to our veteran lineworker who made sure the flag was safely retrieved and respectfully treated. This is the kind of service we’re all about. 🇺🇸
Respecting Old Glory 🇺🇸❤️ Following a recent storm in the Columbus area, two field personnel spotted an American flag tangled in our equipment along some overhead power lines. One of the lineworkers — himself a proud U.S. military veteran — rode up in a bucket to carefully remove it. He ensured it did not touch the ground before folding it up neatly. Because its owner could not be identified, the flag is being safely stored and will soon be delivered to a local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post. #AEPOhio #OldGlory

It takes all kinds of skills and training to keep power flowing to our communities, including the ability to quickly and safely repair and provide specialized equipment. Thanks to Central Machine Shop for 50 years of support for customers and communities across our service area. Here’s to 50 more! 👏#AEPcareers
It takes a village to keep electricity flowing to the communities we serve. For more than 50 years, employees at our Central Machine Shop have been committed to providing and repairing the equipment and materials it takes to keep your lights on. 🛠️💡 While the Shop is located in South Charleston, WV, it supports communities throughout our company's entire footprint. These employees may be behind the scenes when it comes to producing power, but their work is front and center each and every day. ✅👏

Today employees learned a little more about Bill Fehrman's impressive track record of leadership. As our new president and CEO, he brings a wealth of experience and insight that will be pivotal in driving our company forward. Welcome to this team of "great people," Bill! #AEPCareers
Really enjoyed chatting with our new president and CEO, Bill Fehrman, during an all-employee webcast today. Bill officially joined American Electric Power yesterday. He and I chatted about his career, his family, his thoughts on how AEP can drive its business forward and how much he's looking forward to meeting our teams in the field, along with our other important stakeholders. Bill told me why this is his dream job: "I've always viewed AEP as one of the stand-up utilities in the country and it has always had great people and great views on how to best serve its customers. I've been blessed that I've had two 'once in a lifetime' opportunities in my career and couldn't be more excited to be here." Looking forward to seeing AEP thrive under his leadership! #AEP

👏Congratulations to the Appalachian Power team on this well-deserved recognition! Thank you for all you do for our communities on blue-sky days and in the face of historic, disastrous weather.
We're honored to receive the prestigious Emergency Response Award from Edison Electric Institute (EEI). The award comes in recognition of our storm response efforts after a weather event of historic proportions struck parts of West Virginia on April 2 of this year. In all, nearly 150,000 – or more than 30 percent of our West Virginia customers – lost electric service, including four major medical centers and dozens of nursing and assisted living facilities. Incredibly, crews restored service to 100,000 customers in 48 hours. Nearly 470 broken poles, 716 crossarms, 234 transformers, and 276,000 feet of wire were replaced. After assessing the damage, the National Weather Service (NWS) called this a “historic severe weather outbreak” with ten confirmed tornados in West Virginia. “Appalachian Power’s commitment to restoring power in a safe, efficient manner to the communities it serves following the April 2 tornados is admirable. Appalachian Power and its storm response team are extremely deserving of this well-earned recovery award,” said EEI President and COO Dan Brouillette. We extend our sincere thanks to EEI for their recognition of our employees and business partners. Read more at http://ms.spr.ly/6042leTdj.
