At our AGIF NVOP housing facilities, we celebrated with food, live music, and dessert, bringing joy to those who have given so much for our country. "The true history of Juneteenth needs to be remembered, especially now that it has become a nationally celebrated holiday. As a young child, my mother and father taught me that Juneteenth was the celebration of the day that black slaves in Texas found out that slaves across the country had been freed. To be clear, it is NOT the day when slaves were freed; that was much earlier than June 19th. Nevertheless, my family and I gather every year on that date and bring our favorite foods to celebrate and show gratitude for the freedom we have today, which is the true purpose of Juneteenth. Overall, I am glad to work at the AGIF- NVOP as a Sr. Director of Client Services, where the staff is as diverse as the community we serve! I know that the work I do here saves the lives of US Veterans, who serve to protect our freedom."
