Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
About us
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

The percentage of students who have been chronically absent from school has nearly doubled since the beginning of the #COVID19 pandemic. To address this pressing issue, a brand new AIR #Attendance Lab will partner with 10 districts to develop custom strategies and solutions to chronic #absenteeism. We will work with leaders, educators, and community members to meet each district's pressing needs within their local contexts, providing tailored support that helps students thrive.

In the “transition to adulthood,” how does migration shape the experiences of other life events for young women? Researchers Jessie Pinchoff, Isabel Pike, Karen Austrian, Kathryn Grace, and Caroline Kabiru explore the impacts of domestic migration on contraceptive use among young women across 6 countries in Africa. Benjamin Salfeld is not only the newest member of our policy team, he's also a former AIR intern ✨ In celebration of #NationalInternDay, Ben reflects on how the #intern life prepared him for his full-time role: "My intern experience at AIR gave me clear job expectations and the flexibility to leverage my judgement and strengths, while also providing the one-on-one support I needed to build my confidence and skills. I learned to ask for constructive feedback, a skill I still use in my full-time position." What did you take away from your time as an intern? Any wisdoms you'd offer to current interns? Drop them in the comments!
