Congratulations to C. Alan Bennett, also known as “Chef Benne,” for being named AKF’s 2024 Hero of Hope! A devoted kidney disease advocate and a kidney transplant recipient, Bennett is the founder of the C. Alan Foundation, the Kidney Kafe' and the Kidney Kafe' Garden. "Sadly, my story of crashing into kidney failure is not unique," Bennett said. "Until this is no longer the case, I will keep working to educate my local community about kidney disease, nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve our health. She reinforced the critical importance of collective efforts toward achieving kidney health equity, while Eric Vicks, director of patient advocacy at AKF, participated on a panel that discussed kidney failure treatment choices. Every American, regardless of the color of their skin or the neighborhood where they live, should have access to comprehensive and affordable kidney disease diagnosis and treatment options.
