Congratulations to C. Alan Bennett, also known as “Chef Benne,” for being named AKF’s 2024 Hero of Hope! A devoted kidney disease advocate and a kidney transplant recipient, Bennett is the founder of the C. Alan Foundation, the Kidney Kafe' and the Kidney Kafe' Garden. "Sadly, my story of crashing into kidney failure is not unique," Bennett said. "Until this is no longer the case, I will keep working to educate my local community about kidney disease, nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve our health. I am deeply committed to making a change in this space, and the American Kidney Fund's honor has given me further validation to help more people and help change lives." Congratulations again, C. Alan! Learn more about the 2024 Hero of Hope: https://bit.ly/3Y64PMw

AKF thanks American Society of Nephrology, Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc., Ardelyx, Inc., CSL Vifor, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Companies (U.S.), and the Schattner Foundation for their generous support of our Disaster Relief program, dedicated to providing critical emergency financial assistance to dialysis and recently transplanted patients in regions impacted by Helene, including #NorthCarolina, #Florida, #Georgia, #SouthCarolina, #Tennessee and southern #Virginia.     AKF’s Disaster Relief Fund has provided emergency relief grants to kidney patients throughout all the major disasters that have struck the United States and its territories for the past three decades and is the only rapid-response system that provides these emergency grants to people in the kidney community affected by natural disasters. LaVarne Burton, AKF President and CEO, was pleased to deliver opening remarks at the Kidney Community Health Equity Summit on Sept. 28 hosted by U.S. Renal Care. She reinforced the critical importance of collective efforts toward achieving kidney health equity, while Eric Vicks, director of patient advocacy at AKF, participated on a panel that discussed kidney failure treatment choices. Every American, regardless of the color of their skin or the neighborhood where they live, should have access to comprehensive and affordable kidney disease diagnosis and treatment options.
