Perry Johnson Appointed as Vice Chair of the American Lung Association's Michigan Leadership Board   We are proud to announce that Perry Johnson, Director of Campaign Management at Effectv, a division of Comcast, has been named the new Vice Chair of the Michigan Leadership Board. Perry has been a dedicated member of the board for over five years, previously serving as Nomination Chair.   With his extensive experience in advertising and leadership, Perry is uniquely positioned to help drive our mission forward. He is committed to making a real impact on lung health in our community and will play a critical role in strengthening partnerships and advancing our initiatives across Michigan.   We look forward to the incredible strides Perry will lead as part of our executive leadership team!

Announcing Maram Alaiwat,CEP, MA, MEd as the New Board Chair of the American Lung Association's Michigan Leadership Board!   We are thrilled to announce that Maram, a Certified Estate Planner, Financial Advisor and founder of Maram Financial Services, has been appointed as the new Chair of our Michigan Leadership Board. Maram has been a dedicated member of the Michigan Leadership Board for over five years and a regional Midland States Board Member for more than three years, representing Michigan.   With a diverse background in Health Services Administration, Education, Leadership and Financial Services, Maram is uniquely qualified to lead our efforts in advancing lung health and preventing lung disease across Michigan and the region. Welcome Logan Stanko and David Fedele, Ph.D., ABPP, to the American Lung Association's Jacksonville Leadership Board! Logan Stanko is one of the owners of Hydro-Kleen Pressure Washing, a leading commercial and residential cleaning company in North Florida. Logan brings a wealth of knowledge from his early career as a financial advisor and his personal connection to lung disease, having seen multiple family members, including his beloved grandmother, suffer from COPD. Logan's commitment to raising awareness and fighting lung disease is deeply personal: “Lung disease has taken so many close family members, making it more important than ever to raise awareness.” David Fedele, Ph.D., ABPP is a Principal Research Scientist at Nemours Children’s Health and a licensed, board-certified clinical child and adolescent psychologist. With a career focused on technology-based interventions to support children and families managing asthma and cystic fibrosis, David has a long-standing connection to the American Lung Association. His impressive research has garnered federal and national recognition, and we are thrilled to have his expertise on our board. Youth e-cigarette use is on the decline! The American Lung Association’s work has contributed to a 70% decrease in youth vaping rates from 2019-2024, according to the 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey. For more than 15 years, the Lung Association has worked to educate parents and students about the harms of vaping, funded research on the health impacts of e-cigarettes, and successfully advocated for proven policies to reduce e-cigarette use like Tobacco 21, restricting flavors, increasing taxes on e-cigarettes, pushing the Food and Drug Administration to enforce the Tobacco Control Act and expanding smokefree laws to include e-cigarettes. The latest data shows our work is making a difference, but we won’t stop until all kids are safe from tobacco addiction.
