Lillian Wald (1867-1940) was a nursing pioneer, humanitarian and activist. She founded the Henry Street Settlement, which continues to provide social services, arts programs and health care services in New York. Wald quietly created a supportive environment for LGBT women at the settlement, and is known to have had romantic relationships with several of the women who lived there.
