Last month at the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma annual meeting, former Secretary of State, CIA Director and U.S. Congressman Mike Pompeo made the case that, as usual, energy is a driving factor in the world's conflicts. Check it out on the digital replica of the July edition of AOGR. https://lnkd.in/gzBn7WMy

For our July issue, I had a chance to talk with several chemical suppliers and technologists about the steps they're taking to improve completion and production chemistry, as well as the equipment for deploying it. Thanks Ryan Ezell, PhD, Chris Dilley, Justin Disney and Sunil M Sanghavi for contributing to the article. https://lnkd.in/gNYdbYxY

Excellent rationale, similar to new techniques and technology we will study in AOGR’s upcoming Aug. Frac Tech issue. Thanks, Leen!
One recent industry innovation, spearheaded by Ovintiv in the Permian Basin, is to pump into 2, 3 or maybe even 4 wells simultaneously. Simul-, trimul- or quattrofrac’ing (is that a word?) aims to reduce the rate per well, achieving lower wellbore friction, while increasing water and proppant throughput faster than the increase in necessary horsepower to do the job. In single well frac operations, a lot of energy is “wasted” to overcome friction. While perforation friction may be a necessary evil to encourage better proppant distribution between perforation clusters, and the industry’s near-wellbore friction battle in horizontals has been mostly won with better initiation and perf designs, wellbore friction serves absolutely nothing. As wellbore friction scales with rate to the power ~1.7ish, the recent evolution toward higher rates has pushed wellbore friction into the 1,000s of psi, where it is now responsible for 1/4 to 1/2 of all surface pressure to overcome. If you distribute that same rate over two wells, wellbore friction is cut to only ~30% of the original wellbore friction in a single well. I show this benefit in the graph below. Assuming the same rate per perf and cluster, the only pressure component changing is wellbore friction. As overall quattrofrac rate doubles, but rate per well is cut in half, pumping pressures reduce by ~25%. Therefore, only ~1.5x more work is required to deliver a 2x increase in throughout. Some companies currently experimenting with this are also reducing rate per cluster / perforation or reducing stage intensity. We recommend against cutting these corners - as we have seen in many studies, there are significant production benefits from higher rate intensity, stage intensity, proppant intensity and fluid intensity per lateral foot. Essentially, frac’ing multiple wells simultaneously is done to deliver downhole throughout more economically. Operators will need to consider how extra iron, pumps, wireline runs, infrastructure and scheduling impact the optimal number of wells to be frac’ed simultaneously. If the economics are favorable, this is another big step toward higher pumping efficiencies. #shale #frac #innovation #efficiency #energy #oilgas

Gosh, these frequent fliers sure got nailed about the ambiguity of their daily transportation needs and the anti-oil and gas policies they advocate for on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing this, Cynthia. I'll post it at The American Oil & Gas Reporter, too.
WOW! Things got spicy today during the "Climate Control: Decarbonization Collusion ESG Investing," House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing. You had to know it would when the Interim Report from the committee stated: "The Committee has obtained evidence that a 'climate cartel' of left-wing environmental activists and major financial institutions has collided to force American companies to 'decarbonize' and reach 'net zero'. Through their commitments to groups such as Climate Action 100+, the members of the climate cartel expressly have agreed to decarbonize the American economy by forcing corporations to disclose their carbon emissions, to reduce their carbon emissions, and to enforce (and reinforce) their disclosure and reduction commitments by handcuffing company leadership and muzzling corporate free speech and petitioning." If you have just a moment-- watch the screen grab video below. To watch the full, very entertaining hearing https://lnkd.in/gUqR5gJm

Working every issue of AOGR is fun, particularly when we get to track evolving solutions to problems producer readers are confronting, such as excess associated natural gas. Kudos to legacy providers of power-gen solutions as well as new companies that are leveraging their customers' natural gas for electric frac fleet engines and so many other operations. Thanks Chad Wolf, Geoff Bland, Richard Bradsby, James Barr, Rick Poorman and Chris Fournier. One for all, and all for one with respect to the important solutions highlighted in this May issue report. https://lnkd.in/d7UZ-dvZ

📢 I'm honored to testify today (May 2, 2024) before the Texas House Select Committee on Protecting Texas LNG Exports. Thanks to Speaker Dade Phelan for convening the committee. In my address, I will challenge the current federal pause on LNG export approvals, citing substantial evidence and research to highlight the critical role of Texas' LNG exports in both global environmental sustainability and local economic growth. Environmental impact. Did you know Texas LNG exports could offset more emissions than the total annual CO2 output of economies like Australia, Spain, or The Netherlands? Our ability to replace coal in global power generation not only demonstrates leadership in environmental stewardship but also emphasizes the geopolitical significance of Texas in global energy markets. Economic contributions. The federal pause of LNG export approvals threatens upwards of $200 billion in potential direct investments and could hinder a projected 20% expansion in Texas' natural gas production. The stakes are high, and the economic implications are extensive, affecting communities and industries across Texas and Louisiana. Research insights. My recent research, published by U.S. LNG Allies and updated by the Texas Oil & Gas Association, shows that LNG exports have not significantly influenced domestic natural gas prices and have contributed to increased market responsiveness and lower prices for U.S. consumers. Join me as I discuss these points and the need for a strategic reevaluation of the federal LNG export pause. This discussion is not just about energy; it's about securing a sustainable and prosperous future for Texas and advancing global energy security and environmental progress in the process. #LNGExports #EnergyPolicy #EconomicImpact #EnvironmentalSustainability #TexasEnergy #TXOGA

Thanks for the telling EIA graphic. Yet another example of "a picture is worth a thousand words."
Boy what a dramatic reversal in fortunes for the country's energy security. All due to....Frac'ing. This graph drives the detractors into a frenzy, but Frac'ing has changed the lives of Americans more than any technological advance I can think of in the last 15 years. #TraditionalEnergy #OilAndGas #Fracing
