And just like that, it’s back to school time. As you gear up for another school year of early mornings, homework and extracurricular activities, don’t forget the power of peanuts to keep your kiddos at the top of their game, both mentally and physically. Be sure to check out The Peanut Institute and National Peanut Board for more information on peanut health benefits for school aged children and how peanuts and peanut products can be safely included in schools. Happy learning!

The early bird gets the worm. That’s why we’ve opened enrollment early for the Sustainable U.S. Peanuts Initiative’s ‘24 crop. Before harvest is in full swing, growers can visit sustainableuspeanuts.org to enroll in the initiative or update their information from prior enrollment. Questions? Contact Allie Randell at arandell@peanutsusa.com.

A former FFA leader and lifelong supporter of the organization, APC's Richard Owen met with National FFA Organization state and national officers last week in Washington, D.C. The future of agriculture is in great hands, he says!
I always enjoy the opportunity to talk about my agriculture journey, so I jumped at the chance to be on a panel in front of state and national FFA officers last week at their summer conference in DC. This 'Perspectives Panel' covered a range of topics, including industry challenges, creating understanding and motivation to serve agriculture. This crop of FFA leaders did not disappoint in their enthusiasm for the future. The next generation of agriculture is in good hands! The U.S. peanut industry has donated more than 15 tons of peanut butter to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. That’s a whopping 30,240 one-pound jars of PB!!! Donated as part of the American Peanut Research and Education Society (APRES) annual meeting, which took place July 9-11 in Oklahoma City, contributions came from APRES members, the American Peanut Council’s Peanut Butter for the Hungry and Peanut Proud. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma distributes food through a network of more than 1,300 community-based partner agencies and schools in 53 counties in central and western Oklahoma. A huge thanks to everyone who donated and the Oklahoma Peanut Commission who oversaw delivery!

In our latest #FromtheField, Southern Peanut Growers' Leslie Wagner takes us to Seattle for a look at one of the ways her organization is engaging with high school students on peanut nutrition, early introduction and uses in culinary programs. Participating in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America's National Leadership Conference, Leslie and her team had the opportunity to reach more than 8,000 students and their advisors at the conference. FCCLA is a national career and technical student organization that equips students with know-how to address important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.

APC’s Louise McKerchar and Peter Vlazakis attended the USAEDC - U.S. Agricultural Export Development Council annual Attaché Seminar last week. Each year, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) sends attachés and counselors from posts around the world to the conference to meet with agricultural groups and learn more about issues affecting their commodities. The first day of the event consists of a series of half-hour “speed dating” consultations between cooperators like APC and various FAS representatives from relevant markets. The format is an efficient way for APC to interact with foreign service officers in person and in one place. The second day of the seminar featured speakers and panel discussions on topics related to international trade.
