We are saddened to share that celebrated best-selling author and longtime Mensa member Nelson DeMille has passed away at the age of 81. A prolific novelist, DeMille wrote more than 23 books, including collaborations with his son, Alex – a journey he shared with us in the 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢 𝘉𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯. His breakthrough novel, By the Rivers of Babylon (1978), became a New York Times bestseller and launched a career filled with literary success. He later published six more NYT bestsellers, including The General’s Daughter (1992), adapted into a major motion picture starring John Travolta. He will be deeply missed.

'Starting the school year right with a favorite #AG2024 summer memory from Jason Holloway and his son 🤠. What is your fondest AG memory? #nerdcamp

Marketing and Creative Strategist with an emphasis on brand building, leadership and team development.

My favorite☀️ Summer '24 memory... I don't usually do the "personal" thing, or the "family" thing, or even much the "there is a part of me that doesn't work sometimes (shocker)" thing on LinkedIn... but... Anyone who knows me... knows that I feel stagnation is the actual devil. I had been feeling in a bit of a rut, so this summer I challenged myself to make a few, big, uncomfortable steps out of my comfort zone. While there were many steps I will probably keep to myself, this one particularly was full of inspiration, enrichment, great reminders, new friends, and some very solid lessons... After 10 years of being a very inactive American Mensa member, my son tested in and became a member, as well... so I decided it was time to engage... so I engaged us both by going to the Mensa Annual Gathering. Affectionately known as Nerd Camp, we spent six days in Kansas City and we barely left the hotel. We went to seminars, listened to speeches, played board games, had long meandering conversations with strangers who became friends... we talked philosophy, sociology, religion, technology, psychology (a LOT of psychology)... we waxed poetic about books, movies, video games and the list goes on... It also just so happens that KC has an amazing Children's Science museum and some other great museums... so when we did leave the hotel we had the fortune of visiting other mentally stimulating attractions. Long story short, we were exposed to more learnings and new ideas in those few days than I usually get in a year. But one of my favorite parts of it (and of being a father to a youngster in general) is that spending all of these new experiences with my 9-year-old son helped me to do so through his 9-year-old lens, not my --redacted age-- lens... And, truthfully, there is little in this world that is as inspiring and exciting as remembering how it feels to see the world as fresh again. All the wonder. All the possibilities. All the dreams to come. So... for six days, I effectively forgot about work. But most importantly, I came back to work inspired and recharged. I came back with so much new info (thanks to all the brilliant Mensa speakers and conversants and chatty Kathies) and a renewed perspective that the rest of the summer has been a blur of excitement. Lesson 1: ⏰ Sometimes the best way to do your best work is to stop working. Lesson 2: 😍 Sometimes the most inspiration comes from engaging in what you love with who you love. Lesson 3: 👶 You're never too old to see the world through kid's eyes. I hope each of you also had a great Summer... and my wish for you all is that you are able to tackle your Fall challenges with child-like excitement and wonder... to enjoy the journey. #LivetoWork #WorktoLive #AmericanMensa #Culture #Inspiration
