It's Hispanic Heritage Month! Our small lab benefits from scientists and staff of many nationalities and ethnicities, so it's a pleasure to highlight the contributions of a few. Without their energy and labor our contributions to the Department of Energy's goal of clean energy, materials innovation, and advances in basic science would look very different.

Advances in quantum materials will be key to exploring the future of quantum computing. Ames scientist Marik Kolmer has been recognized by the Department of Energy with a financial grant to help investigate materials and their phenomena. The discoveries made could not only help quantum computing, but also make advances in sensors and electricity transference. “I’m honored to be a recipient,” said Kolmer. “There are great experts and great capabilities, but also there is a lot of effort to maintain this balance between technical, discipline-specific expertise and developing as a leader, developing personal skills, developing communication. This holistic approach will be an important aspect for successful realization of this project.” https://lnkd.in/gYy8mrzW
