Where families come home to heal.

About us

At Amethyst Place, our noble cause is to inspire transformational healing and empower generations of women and children to achieve recovery, reunification, and resilience. We break generational cycles of trauma, substance use, and poverty by reuniting, stabilizing, and healing families; providing coaching and a strong sense of community; and advancing education and creating career paths. Through our 37 apartments and on-site programs, families receive safe housing and basic needs, educational and vocational supports, recovery and wellness coaching, and therapy and care management for as long as they need to help the whole family heal and thrive. Since our founding in 2000, we have empowered almost 375 families and 726 children.

Imagine walking into a fully furnished apartment, possibly the first place you've ever called your own. It has everything you need. You finally breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that you and your family are safe under one roof. This is the experience you can create by donating new or gently used furnishings to Amethyst Place. With several new families in the last few months, we are in need of home furnishings to ensure we are prepared for future families. Items can be purchased online and shipped directly to Amethyst Place (2735 Troost A, KCMO 64109). We also accept donations of gently used and cleaned items. In order to better support you during donation drop-offs, we are now requesting that supporters sign up for a drop-off appointment. This ensures staff are on hand to help accept your donations, provide a receipt, and help carry heavy items as needed. Donation appointments are offered Tuesday through Friday between 10 am to 2 pm (excluding holidays and inclement weather closures). Please reserve your drop-off time at: https://lnkd.in/gPms-cih Questions? Please contact Tonille Williams, our Housing Resources & Volunteer Coordinator, at 816-343-4228 or tonille@amethystplace.org. Thank you for considering Amethyst Place in your generosity!

📣AP community, Bella and Malaya STILL NEED your help!📣 These AP youth are aspiring leaders and passionate about serving their community. Because of that, they have been selected as Kansas City's ambassadors for the 2024 Youth Corps Volunteer Summit in Virginia Beach, VA this October! They need to raise $2,800 by September 7 to fund their trip. Can you help them? Here's why it means so much to Malaya: "I want to go to the Summit so I can have new experiences and meet new kids my age and learn about how they are helping the people in their communities. And maybe make some new friends." As we shared last week, Bella and Malaya dedicated their summer to Youth Volunteer Corps, completing team-based service opportunities around KC to benefit their community while gaining valuable job skills. Join us in raising money to support sending these two deserving youth to the annual Summit and to support the work youth are doing to make our community a better place by participating in the YVCKC Walk for Compassion Saturday, September 7th at Loose Park! Use the link below to join the Amethyst Place team and then share the event with your friends and family! Thank you for your support! https://lnkd.in/gXMa2GEG

The start of a new school year is a busy time for kids...and their parents! Feeling overwhelmed with back-to-school duties for your kiddos is common, but there are ways to manage it effectively. Our amazing Child & Family Therapist, Latrese Kabuya, Mental Health Professional, shares some helpful tips for parents navigating this transition: 1. **Create a Schedule**: Establish a weekly routine that includes homework time, extracurricular activities, and family time. Having a clear plan helps everyone know what to expect. 2. **Stay Organized**: Use planners or digital tools to keep track of important dates, assignments, and events. 3. **Set Priorities**: Focus on what truly needs to be done each week. Don't overdue it! 4. **Limit Extracurricular Activities**: While it’s great for kids to be involved, too many activities can lead to burnout. Choose a few that they are truly passionate about. 5. **Take Breaks**: Make sure to schedule downtime for the whole family. 6. **Practice Self-Care**: Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Whether it’s exercise, meditation, or a hobby, ensuring your well-being will help you support your kids better. #backtoschool2024

We were able to prepare all of our K-12 students for the 2024-2025 school year! 📚✏️🎒 #backtoschool2024 #newschoolyear

📣We want to send a shout out to three members of our Leadership team! Jamila Edwards, Sarah Knopf-Amelung, and Erin Hestand (left to right) recently completed the Bloch Strategic Leadership Program at UMKC. It is a 6-month active learning experience for working professionals who want to grow as leaders and gain a holistic view of the challenges facing business today. As part of the experience, they created a capstone project using design thinking and human-centered design principles, along with all that they learned from their coursework. The product is a re-envisioned program model that increases individualization and self-determination for each family's pathway to success at Amethyst Place. We can't wait to see their work in action as we nearly double in size by the end of 2024!
