Delivering purposeful, luxury lifestyle technology with the highest quality workmanship—Owner and Operator of Amp AV

Here’s a pro tip for residential AV system designers to help with medium-sized jobs with audio and video distribution. How often do you need that 5th TV in a distributed system? When you do need it, you’re often faced with a dilemma; either upgrade to an 8x8 video matrix, or scrap the video distribution altogether so you don’t blow up the customer’s budget. There is a way to get that magical fifth (and maybe sixth) TV onto the system that we at Amp AV have found to work very reliably. Use 1x2 or 1x4 HDMI distribution amplifiers (high quality ones like the AVPro Global Holdings AC-DA12-AUHD-GEN2 and split the signal between your 4x4 matrix and the AVR(s) when you have at least one surround sound zone in the setup. You can even do this to add that 9th TV to an 8x8 matrix system, as long as you don’t have too many input sources needing to be split. This value engineering method has been the sweet spot on multiple jobs for us because for some reason, we almost always need that one extra TV. Just don’t forget to properly set up the EDID settings within the DAs and the matrix! #avdesign #residentialav #videodistribution #customAV

Are you one of the many AV integrators who are guilty of this major design error? Before streaming became the most common form of TV viewing, larger set-top-boxes and higher-end Blu Ray players supported simultaneous surround sound and 2 channel analog audio outputs. Now that streaming players are the norm, audio downmixing is extremely important. As we all know, Apple TV, Roku, and smaller cable/satellite boxes don’t have separate audio outputs, so HDMI audio extraction is needed when distributing the audio. The HDMI EDID will downgrade the audio signal from the source to 2-channel if you don’t have a signal path to support 5.1 or 7.1 audio. You cannot simply use regular HDMI audio extractors on devices like Apple TV’s, Rokus, and set-top-boxes. That only works if all of the zones on the system are stereo zones. To distribute the audio properly, you must do one of three things; use specialized 7.1ch>2ch (or 5.1ch>2ch) audio downmixing extractors, use a downmixing video matrix, or use downmixing AV over IP encoders/decoders. If you have been using the "Dolby Surround" mode (formerly Dolby Pro Logic II) surround mode on a regular basis, then your customers have never actually had real surround sound. I come across this so often, and from jobs that have been installed by some of the biggest integrators in Greater Phoenix. Do it right! Do good work!! Distribute AV properly!!! ***** Important correction to something mentioned in the video: "Dolby Pro Logic II" is now part of "Dolby Surround." "Dolby Surround" is the codec that includes Pro Logic, but also allows for audio to be sent to Atmos (height) speakers. Check out this info from Marantz: https://lnkd.in/gywBB-kK It's been so many years since I've paid attention to that surround mode method because I never need to use it. Always set the Decoder type in the AVR to "Auto." With some AVRs you can select a "Program" separately from the decoder, which will tune the speakers differently, but still leverage the channel information of the selected decoder. ***** #downmixing hashtag #videodistribution hashtag #customAV hashtag #hometheater

🚨 Are you one of the custom home integrators who is getting this completely wrong? I'm talking about video distribution... so many AV installers I talk to say they are just installing Apple TVs or Rokus behind every TV on a project and back-feeding the audio to the distribution system over audio baluns. Why don't they understand that distributed video is still just as important as it ever was? I laugh when I hear people pitch video distribution as a way to save on cable or satellite every month. That's never been the reason, and no one is saving any money by buying expensive AV gear. It used to be, in part, about hiding bulky equipment in a rack, yes, but that was a decade ago. Besides, I'm referring to a matrix system, not just something you can achieve with an HDMI balun. The one critical reason why distributed video is still just as important today is not the video. It's the audio. More specifically it's syncing the audio to the video between multiple adjacent rooms, or zones within earshot of each other. It's not the only reason, but it is the main reason, and always has been. Of course if you have an expensive media server or NVR feed to distribute to multiple locations, there's that too. A manufacturer rep asked me a while back why our company is still using video distribution. Ironically he is from a control system company we all know that makes a ton of great video distribution products, both HDBaseTV and IP/SDVOE. He asked why we don't just do an Apple TV at each TV. I couldn't believe it when I heard him speak it. Some people simply don't understand what truly belongs in a luxury home or how to communicate the lifestyle value that a quality distributed system will provide. Thanks for watching! If you agree with this video, please repost! Let's educate our colleagues that still don't understand! #audiovideo #customAV #videodistribution #residentialAV

Architects, builders, and interior designers need to understand and avoid this pitfall when it comes to lighting design! It is crucial that different fixture types are separated onto independent switch legs, or loads. Otherwise, the homeowner will never achieve the perfect ambience. I see this mistake made in MOST of the the construction drawing packages that we are asked to bid. I am risking the loss of the job by DOING IT RIGHT and separating these fixture types onto independent loads so that they can be dimmed at different levels. This adds more smart lighting hardware to the bid, and in a competitive situation, our value engineering might not be taken into consideration. Contact Amp AV for more info our smart lighting solutions. Thanks for watching! #savant #smartlighting #lightingdesign

Subscribe to our Youtube channel, please! Just finished this outdoor media wall and 8.1 landscape audio system install. Tell us what you think! Also, yeah, we know that's a ton of glare. The homeowner opted for a regular TV instead of an outdoor TV. I'm sure it will get upgraded down the road after the dust settles from the other renovations taking place.
