Hurricane #Helene is expected to intensify into a major hurricane before making landfall Thursday night. What does this mean for the power grid? Cloud cover is already reducing demand in the SERC region, along with milder temperatures and expected widespread power outages. Helene is projected to make landfall in the TAL and SEC zones, impacting major regions like SOCO and TVA shortly after. Meanwhile, cloud cover and heavy rainfall will suppress demand across the region, starting tomorrow and persisting through the weekend. Given the storm's size, cloud cover is extending to South Florida and as far North into PJM regions like AEP, EKPC, and DOM, driving down demand. For all those in the gulf, stay safe and stay informed as this hurricane is rapidly intensifying. Photo courtesy of National Hurricane Center.
