But… is it actually business class or just "something resembling" it? (Thanks, The Points Guy, for the air quotes! 🙃) The real question: Are you trying Spirit Airlines or sticking with the classics? Saw a Slack post earlier today from one of our very astute managers of our ticketing/fulfillment team who noticed customers were getting free changes on American Airlines tickets on our booking tool, due to Helene, with (gasp) no waiver code! If you're not from the travel industry and have no idea what I'm talking about, the process of rebooking a traveler on another flight during a weather disruption is more arcane, laborious, and downright stupid than you could ever imagine. Part of the process involves getting a "waiver code" from the airline to make that change. Modern(er) technology is finally fixing this. With NDC, if the airline knows they are willing to allow a free change, the TMC or travel agency no longer has to go through the exercise of asking the airline for the waiver code, getting it, and then spitting it right back to the airline. Sounds obvious, but this is the airline industry! And during massive disruptions like Helene it saves hours and hours of tedious manual work and, more importantly, allows travelers to get their flights rebooked within seconds. Come on, Martin Cowley, throw me one bone. Admit that even you think this is a little cool!

(Is it gauche to talk about a hurricane... and NDC? You tell me.) Hoping that everyone along the Gulf Coast and Southeast stays safe with the storm coming. AmTrav Travel Advisors have been busy (BUSY!) helping travelers get home and get out of the storm's path this week. One advantage that AmTrav Advisors and travelers have is access to United Airlines and American Airlines NDC with automatically-applied weather waivers. United Airlines and American Airlines (and others) have waived fare differences and penalties on travel at two dozen airports through next Friday. Thanks to NDC's built-in capabilities, AmTrav customers changing affected travel have those fare differences and penalties automatically waived. This means faster, easier changes with the storm bearing down. (Check the comments for Jeff Klee's excellent summary of the slower, hard old way.) Stay safe, friends!
