About us
The objective of the Analytics Solutions Center, within the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, is to provide significant experiential learning opportunities for students from across USU’s Logan and Statewide campuses by working with corporate partners on analytics projects. The need is great: companies increasingly have more data than they have the bandwidth to effectively utilize, and are often willing to hire trusted outside expertise to carve off projects in the queue. At the ASC we offer industry-leading consulting services on a wide variety of data based projects via student run teams. These student teams are mentored by world class faculty, with expertise across the spectrum of data analytics, software development, and machine learning. As students successfully complete these projects under the supervision of faculty, the return on investment for our corporate partners is considerable, with a high placement rate of students in analytics roles.

One of our recent research projects addressed an issue in clinical trial data analysis. Our team focused on the repercussions of overlooking essential model assumptions when conducting a meta-regression—a statistical technique used to analyze clinical trial data from multiple sources. THE OPPORTUNITY While it's common to check regression model assumptions in other settings, many researchers skip this step in meta-regressions. This oversight can lead to incorrect conclusions about a drug's safety and efficacy. THE TASK 1. Understand how often researchers neglect to check meta-regression model assumptions. 2. Investigate the repercussions of this oversight to improve the reliability of meta-regression research practices. The result? A deeper understanding that helps ensure drug research is more accurate and trustworthy. Thanks to Wyatt Williams and Brinley Zabriskie for their incredible work on this project! Project Spotlight - DAIS Our mission was to implement a dashboard that offers real-time data on student demographics, academic history, and program involvement. This dashboard not only tracks trends over time but also evaluates the effectiveness of various programs in boosting major enrollment. The result? An intuitive, data-driven tool that helps us understand our students better and supports strategic planning for the Data Analytics and Information Systems department at USU. By tracking changes in gender representation, analyzing the impact of specific programs, and identifying patterns, we aim to develop strategies to improve student success. Kudos to Aria Ward and Polly Conrad for their hard work on this project! Could your institution benefit from data solutions? Last week, our students had the opportunity to visit the Bay Area with the ASC team. Students explored tech giants like Snowflake, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Google. They visited a startup called Hover Inc. and enjoyed seeing the city. They even got to meet USU alumni in the area for dinner at Buca Di Beppo. Thanks to each of these companies for making this wonderful experience possible! These unique experiences provided students valuable opportunities to meet experts and ask questions directly to representatives of some of the largest tech companies and innovative startups. If your company is interested in hosting students or sponsoring projects send a direct message! #Analytics #Tech #BayArea
