🎊 Hey everyone, I’m excited to announce that &AI has been accepted to Y Combinator! Herbert Turner and I will be participating in the upcoming S24 batch. We are building comprehensive solutions for attorneys to streamline patent due diligence at a speed and scale never before possible. 📃 Patent due diligence is essential, but notoriously time consuming, tedious and costly. By using AI to understand the inventive aspects of patents and automate the creation of work products, we enable attorneys to instantly and comprehensively find prior art, produce robust claim language, invalidate weak patents and more. ⚡ In just minutes, we are able to analyze and compare inventiveness across thousands of patents, allowing attorneys to spend less time on tedious work and more time developing their arguments. 🙏 We’re actively looking to onboard more tech-forward law firms and company in-houses working with patents. We’d also love to hear directly from individual patent applicants and owners about how our tools might serve them. If you’re interested, please send us a message! Y Combinator S24 has officially wrapped up! 🎉 It has been an incredible time working on &AI with Herbert Turner and the rest of the team this summer. These past few months have been packed with hard work, intense learning, and meaningful progress. We've started solving real problems for our users, scaled our product to meet the needs of tens of customers across law and technology, and focused on building something people want. Shoutout to David Lieb and the rest of the YC partners for the invaluable advice along the way! Although YC may be over, the journey for &AI is just beginning 🚀

There's a reason why Y Combinator is so famous....it supports dozens of pioneering companies, some of which go on to be world famous. Here are two from its recent cohorts that AL noted and are of interest to #legaltech folks. > Meet &AI - working in IP / patents, and > Wordware (YC S24) - helping you to build AI agents more easily - and gives legal use cases as an example. Wordware also states: 'Our core belief is that the domain expert – not the engineer – knows what good LLM output looks like. For example, lawyers building legal SaaS need to be deeply involved in the process, and working directly in the codebase or going back and forth with engineers isn’t the way to go.' Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/eZ8nezKw Hope to see them when we are in SF in June 2025 for Legal Innovators California ! #legaltech #Ycombinator #startups #IP #AIagents HT Caleb Harris Herbert Turner Filip Kozera

At &AI (YC S24), we’re unlocking new opportunities for patent portfolio management that have never before been possible. What would have taken thousands of hours, now takes just minutes on our platform. Consider the following– you want to search through a portfolio of 1000+ patents and identify those with the greatest risk of invalidation. A cursory review is all but useless, and a comprehensive review, with exhaustive prior art searching and detailed claim charts, untenable. Traditional methods for patent due diligence require an incredible amount of manual time, and although the end product is high quality, the process is so resource intensive that it is impossible to scale. We’ve solved this problem and built patent due diligence that scales. Our platform makes it easy to analyze hundreds of patents simultaneously through lenses like invalidity risk, infringement or comparisons to standards. We handle the heavy lifting of finding invalidating art and rigorously drafting claim charts full of citations and figures, for every patent being analyzed. If you're interested, send us a note!

During YC S24, Herbert Turner and I have soaked in an incredible amount of advice from our partners as we scale &AI. One of the obvious, but highly effective points is simply “talk to your customers.” We’ve taken it to heart, and each week meet with as many lawyers, inventors, and patent agents as we can. From our 100+ conversations, we’ve discovered that people are spending tens of thousands of dollars and multiple days in lead time on incomplete prior art searches from outsourced search agents. These searches then have to be refined either directly by patent lawyers or through feedback to the search agents in an iterative loop, wasting even more time and resources. There are over two decades of research literature in using machine learning and other algorithms to automate prior art searching, but there have always been a few key problems: 1. 🧠 Proper semantic understanding: In spaces like IP litigation, you are not just looking for relevant prior art, but prior art that invalidates the subject patent’s claims. Even when broken down into subtasks, this requires a nuanced understanding of patent text that previous models weren’t powerful enough to achieve. With the new wave of LLMs, we can now successfully create these subtasks and combine them into an automated solution with optional human feedback and intervention. 2. 🔍 Quality evaluation: Although patent data is all publicly-available, there are few resources for properly evaluating an invalidating prior art search. Our team has done the time-consuming, intensive legwork of converting office action citations and IPR decisions into evaluation datasets to tune and validate our systems. 3. 📈 Scale: The worldwide patent corpus is finite, but large and growing at an increasing rate. The NPL corpus is even larger. Hosting the raw data with our insights and analysis in an instantly searchable way requires robust, scalable systems. Over the past year, we’ve evaluated various software and built a tech stack we’re confident can handle over a billion publications. If you’re an attorney, inventor, or investor who struggles with getting high quality results from expensive prior art searches, we’d love to talk to you! #legaltech #yc #patents

Time is money, especially in patent law where a single billed hour can cost a client thousands. At &AI, we deeply understand this, which is why we design our products to be as time efficient as possible. In just the past 10 days, we've saved patent attorneys over 1200 hours by reducing the time it takes to search for prior art and generate claim charts from dozens of hours to just a few minutes. Attorneys can use this time to take on new clients and focus on quality. We're actively running pilots with several leaders in patents, IP litigation, and inventions. If you're an interested attorney or in-house counsel, we'd love to hear from you! #startups #legaltech #AI
