We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. David Michael McCalman II, a long-time physician and leader at Andalusia Health who served generations of local families and was beloved by the community he so loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Dr. McCalman spent nearly three decades practicing medicine, all in Andalusia and many at Andalusia Health. He didn’t just provide skilled, compassionate care to our patients while at the hospital ‒ he held numerous leadership positions that included serving as Chief of Family Medicine, Director of Medical Education, Chair of Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Chair of Infection Control, and a member of our Board of Trustees. We will miss his presence, expertise, and clinical leadership at Andalusia Health, but are thankful Dr. McCalman’s life touched so many at our hospital and so many throughout our community. - Vickie Demers CEO, Andalusia Health

We are pleased to announce Andalusia Health has received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit group that sets standards for excellence in patient safety and care. Leapfrog’s Spring 2024 assessments were announced on May 1. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital safety. The group assigns grades to over 3000 acute-care hospitals in the U.S. These grades are a quick way for consumers to choose the safest hospital to seek care. “We are thrilled to earn Leapfrog’s highest grade ‒ it’s a deserving testament to our well-trained, hard-working and incredibly caring team,” said Vickie Demers, BS, MBA, MHA, CPPS, CEO of Andalusia Health. “This top designation gives patients even more confidence that when they come to Andalusia, they will receive high-quality, compassionate care in a safe environment.”
