About us
The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine is leading the transformation of health care by training a new generation of health professionals and by empowering individuals and communities to optimize health and wellbeing through evidence-based, sustainable, integrative approaches. Founded in 1994 by Dr. Andrew Weil, we focus on three domains: education, health promotion and research. We believe the best way to change a field is to educate the most gifted professionals and place them in settings where they can teach others. Integrative Medicine (IM) is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate medical therapies.

With health and well-being central to the human experience, Dr. Weil took the stage yesterday at the 15th annual Tucson Humanities Festival: WELL-BEING, hosted by the University of Arizona - College of Humanities Speaking to a full forum, Dr. Weil underscored that mind and body are inseparable—two poles of a single reality. He noted that while conventional medicine often focuses on the body, integrative medicine treats the whole person—mind, spirit, and body—by embracing therapies that utilize the mind-body connection to promote well-being and healthy aging. It was an honor to see integrative medicine featured in Humanities Week. We extend our thanks to the University of Arizona College of Humanities for including us in this meaningful event and look forward to future collaborations. #humanities #integrativemedicine

From chicken pox parties to pandemic isolation, many of us have experienced a wide range of health environments. This shift has reignited discussions around the Hygiene Hypothesis and its impact on asthma and immune health. The Hygiene Hypothesis suggests that reduced exposure to pathogens in modern industrialized settings may impede immune system development, potentially contributing to the rise in allergic conditions like asthma. Join us on the latest episode of the Body of Wonder podcast with special guest Dr. Randy Horwitz as we explore this compelling topic.
