For our final #WomensHistoryMonth Wednesday, we want to highlight remarkable women who made a difference. Annie Easley was a talented mathematician who broke barriers throughout her life. She started her career with the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA) in 1955 as a “human computer” who worked out calculations for researchers by hand, relying on tables and large computing machines. At the time, she was one of only four African Americans in NACA, which had 2,500 employees. When the space program began, she saw the transition of NACA to NASA and then the use of computers rather than slide rules. Read more: https://bit.ly/3uHxZ3X

#DiabetesAlertDay is a one-day “wake-up call” that focuses on the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of understanding your risk. Nearly 1 in 5 adults living with diabetes, or 7.3 million Americans, are unaware that they have the disease. Could you have diabetes and not know it? Take the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Risk Test to learn more. https://lnkd.in/dUNXrWAh

Today is #WorldDownSyndromeDay and this year’s theme is a call for people around the world to End The Stereotypes. A stereotype is a set idea that people have about what someone or something is like. They are often inaccurate, or simply wrong! Stereotypes can stop people with Down syndrome from being treated like other people. Each person with Down syndrome is different. Having Down syndrome is just one part of who we are! Together we will create a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion, and wellbeing of people with Down syndrome. https://lnkd.in/gB7_Z53 #EndTheStereotypes #LotsOfSocks

For our second #WomensHistoryMonth Wednesday, we want to highlight remarkable women who made a difference. Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to Congress and a founding member of both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Women’s Caucus. She was also the first African American to run for a major party presidential nomination. During her seven consecutive terms representing the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, Chisholm was known as "Fighting Shirley" for taking a resolute stand against economic, social, and political injustices and for her passionate advocacy for her poor and minority constituents.

The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2024 is #InspireInclusion. It's a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all those committed to forging women's equality. ❤️ When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Collectively, let's forge a more inclusive world for women. All IWD activity is valid, that's what makes IWD so inclusive. Join in and make IWD your day by doing what you can to support and advance women. #IWD2024
