Being an entrepreneur will really send you to an early grave. This is an ongoing story about how DHL has held hostage 100s of Anima Iris handbags for 82 days.
As a small brand, working with retailers can be very exciting. We had big orders from Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. To fulfill the orders, we invested heavily into our raw materials & logistics. But things do not always go as planned.
There were delays in the production of the raw materials, delays in retrieving the raw materials due to customs, and by the time my team (the only reliable aspect of this operation) made and shipped the bags on June 7, 2023, I DID NOT IMAGINE that the next delay would be for 82 days due to a random “stop” in Germany.
Of all shipments to be held hostage, this was the worst one. It contained custom handbags made for our Irises and 100s of bags made for our retail partners. Our operation is missing out on tens of thousands of dollars in potential sales and had our retail partners not graciously extended our ship by deadline, we would have lost out on over $100,000 in revenue.
This experience has taught me how little DHL values its small businesses and how unreliable they become once issues arise.
Besides flying to Germany myself and demanding the release of my shipments (that’s crazy, I will not be leaving my home), I am making this post to raise awareness.
Please help us by tagging DHL CEOs John Pearson and Tobias Meyer and head of Post & Parcel Germany Nikola Hagleitner .
I have included our DHL tracking number so that me you and all of LinkedIn can follow along to see if our bags ever make it to New York! :)
