Great to see you guys taking the initiative and attending #config2024. With so many usability experts in attendance , hopefully Figma will be able to find a solution to those technical glitches 😅

#config2024 Impressions - Attending in person was well worth it 👍, despite some technical difficulties in the morning that led to painfully long wait times. I left with a lot of inspiration and new insights revolving around #AI. I recommend listening to Eugenia Kuyda and Margarita Popova's presentation if you're interested in #conversationalAI. I only attended the "AI & Innovation" sessions, so let me know if any others stood out to you! #config2024 #figma #anml

I’m excited to finally share my thoughts on Apple Vision Pro. Our team at ANML had the opportunity to design one of the first apps available for the platform and, while some of us were initially skeptical, we’re now all 100% on board with the technology. Though the current price tag is steep for most consumers, 200K+ units were sold in the first 10 days of preorders. Having seen the potential firsthand, I have no doubt this is just the beginning. A few takeaways from our experience: Keep it simple —— Trying to put too much in view is quickly overwhelming. We had the initial idea of having many “windows” to display different pieces of content. This can create a window management issue as you have to reposition each window if you change your view. The “simulator” is nothing like the real experience —— It’s very challenging to get a feel for the experience without the physical product and using the the Vision Pro “simulator” doesn’t give you the fluidity of the actual headset. Testing in the simulator did not give us an accurate read on how our experience was behaving so investing in the device for R&D is necessary. Eye tracking is sensitive —— Too many interaction points on a "volume", while also using gestures, can not only lead to unintended (and frustrating) actions but also visual noise from eye movements triggering accidental focus states. Learn the foundations —— Apple has established different ways to display content through “windows”, “volumes” and “spaces”. Certain content is best served by each. You’ll need to understand which format best suits your content. Placing UI in a physical world requires new considerations —— Our first explorations pushed Apple’s foundational guidance, experimenting with custom glass and opaque windows. We quickly learned that some of these things can be safety concerns. Apple's glass is dynamic adjusting for different lighting and backgrounds, preserving a sense of depth and accessibility. Also, certain head and eye movements are less straining than others. There are many possibilities surrounding entertainment, but where this device has extreme potential is by helping professionals, as well as consumers, navigate complex assemblies and procedures, hands-free, alongside immersive training and instructions. We’re looking forward to sharing more about the project we’ve been working on and our experience in future posts. #visionpro #spatialdesign #anml
