The Najoles Road Pond & Stream Restoration has won the 2024 CEAM (County Engineers Association of Maryland) Project of the Year Award in the medium-size project category. The project was managed by our Bureau of Watershed Protection and Restoration and involved retrofitting a non-functioning stormwater pond on the east side of Najoles Road in Millersville, as well as restoring 1,800 linear feet of a tributary to the Severn Run on the west side of the road. The design was by AKRF and construction was completed by Underwood & Associates. For more information, go to: https://bit.ly/3Z3Vgyv. Check out the before and after photos. #DPWandYOU

Our executives and staff gathered today for a luncheon celebrating our Peak Performance Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA)) for continued wastewater treatment excellence at all seven of the County’s Water Reclamation Facilities. The Platinum Award for the Broadwater WRF reflects 27 consecutive years of 100% National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit compliance, while the Platinum Awards for the Annapolis, Broadneck and Cox Creek WRFs reflect eight, seven and six years of 100% compliance, respectively. The Patuxent and Maryland City treatment plants received Gold Awards for 100% perfect compliance in the last calendar year, and the Piney Orchard WRF received a Silver Award for less than five permit exceptions during the calendar year. #DPWandYOU

The installation of solar panels on building roofs and parking lot canopies at the Bureau of Utility Operations has been a win-win. In fiscal 2024, close to 89 percent of the electricity for the complex was supplied by the solar system and the department saved almost $135,000 in electricity costs. #DPWandYOU #GoGreen

A truck from the Bureau of Highways was a popular attraction at last weekend’s River Days Festival at West River Center. The son of the bureau’s Ashley Kane, Baylen, was among the fans of the truck. DPW plans to be at the next River Days event on August 25 at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. #DPWandYOU
